Does the lipo battery have a lot more power and is it hard on motors
and esc's like running a lot hotter.
Thanks Terry

a standard 6 cell nimh has 7.2 volts a 2 cell lipo has 7.4 volts.
so yes it is a little faster and runs a little hotter but only a little. should cause no problem. a 3 cell lipo has 11.1 volts and is a bit faster and a bit hotter might be to hot for some setups.

Also, a word of caution...if you're planning to use a Lipo, be sure you either have a low voltage cutoff (LVC) built into the ESC or an external LVC to keep your Lipos from being potentially damaged.

Default lipo pack

I have a rebel 2 in my CFNN, and Novak brushless in my TXT. I plan on using the lipo in both.

A lot of people will get by without using a LVC by not running the vehicle once it slows much from normal speed. However, you can find them (LVC) in the $20 range and it's a good peace of mind. Neither the Rebel 2, nor the Novak havean LVC built in. The only 10th scale brushless ESC's with a built in LVC that I know of are the Mtroniks Genesis series, Castle Creations Mamba Maxx and Quark Pro Car series.

Needing a Rx pack is a function of the maximum output current capabilities of the built in BEC of your ESC, not your battery pack. So, if you need one now, you'll still need one when you switch to Lipo.

...regarding an LVC. A great one I've used is the LipoShield found here:

http://www.dimensionengineering.com/LipoShield.htm

Easy-peazy to setup and works great. I used one on one of my heli's that doesn't have an LVC built into the ESC. The soft cut-off is great for getting back down to the ground before you run out of juice.
