Default non audible frequency ECS?

Hello everyone!

I know this is my 1st post. This site has really inspired me back into RC enough that I have on order a high lift + narrowed Claw Dawgs + some bead locks from RC4WD and all the rest...!

For my question, I have searched the net for a while but I have not found the solution I am looking for. Soo..-

Everyone knows the "EEEEEEEEEE" sound most ECS;s make motors produce. Humans can hear up to 20KHz. I have found a ECS (dont remember which) that can run drive/reverse modes upto 32KHz.. But they say that makes extra heat and reduces efficiency and longevity, especially for higher power motors. I know high turn motors use very little power.. But I am also concerned for my dogs. They can hear upto 60KHz..

So Im asking does anyone know of a solution that I can not hear and wont send my dogs running with pain in there ears??

Thanks,
Chris.

yes, bear the pain your self and dont torture your dogs, j/k!

welcome to the board.

this may not be a solution but per haps you could stick it in a hitech servo box with some sound dampening foam, this would also water proof it.

As he said, it is the motor that is actually making the noise.

RocknMud - do you really think it is bothersome to dogs? Regardless of frequency, it isn't very loud. Though it may be an weird noise and perhaps they may find it curious, I don't think it would cause them any pain.

Lower frequency ESC's (most older escs and some newer lower $$$) don't make this noise...the high switching rate ESCs are smoother control but noisy and irritating especially when you're crawling.

Well, if you take the motor out of the car and hold it in your hand, and give a small amount of throtle, a very small amount of noise is made.. Now if you bolt that motor back up, or even lay it on your desk and give it some gas, its quite loud again. The motor is only really the magnet and voice coil part of a speaker, and the car it self is the woofer.. So I dont think wraping the motor will do much, but Ill give it a go.

This is that 32KHz ESC I was talking about: http://www.kontronikusa.com/brushlessesc/konm3100.html

"
  • Adjustable frequency from 8kHz to ultra-high 32kHz for super smooth control and high effiency operation."
Does anyone hae any experience with this?

Your probably right about how loud it accually is to a dogs ears. I just had a thought that it would be like a high-pitch pest control type thing..

that is a brushless ESC. You are running a brushed motor, so it wont work.

Not much you can do about it really. Most ESCs are noisy. They "switch" the voltage on and off to regulate the motor speed. Each switch makes a noise, and it is pretty much in our audible range no matter what.
