Default Winch cable?

I need to find a good material for a winch cable. I have some led from my tackle box that is PERFECT, but too short, only about foot and half.

What is everyone else using?

i have heard that 80 lb gorilla line works great but a little on the pricey side ($20) a spool.

the 60lb was like $5, but i cant imagine what your rig would weigh to break it.

Go to Michael's or another craft store and look for jewelry wire. It spools really well.

Yeah, how much does your rig weigh Jeremy? Better add some weight or when you winch him, it will only pull your rig toward him, unless of course you secure your truck to a redwood tree.

The nice thing is that a High Lift outweighs most other scalers...

I have some pull cord from window blinds that looks like it would work good. I saved it from when I trimmed the cords on some new blinds I installed. It is white but could be dyed black or grey if you really wanted. Just a thought.

I just have some thin twine and it works good. Weird thing is I used 30lb fishing line and it snapped. My rig doesn't even weigh more than 7lbs loaded.

7lbs. is curb weight. What you need to know is how much it weighs when you are pulling it and what kind of mud or whatever you are stuck in. Dirty Jobs did an episode on the army division that frees stuck vehicles. Lots of calculations to figure how much force it will take to free a stuck vehicle. I agree with pigeonfarmboy on the jewelry wire. My wife makes bracelets and uses a stainless steel wire that is .049 I think. Seems pretty strong and I know they have other diameters.
