You'd be better off contacting Holmes Hobbies. Get a Mamba Max and one of his Hyperion motors that'll fit the weight of your truck, batteries you run and your driving style.

On Holmes Hobbies I don't find Mamba Max ESC, I find Hyperion Engine only or Mamba 25 in combos...

What that means like stated above is rpm per volt so the higher that number is the faster the motor will be.I have a E flite park 400 brushless motor in my crawler that is 920kv and is perfect for crawling and I have a mamba max 5700kv motor in my race buggy and it will fly but would never be good for crawling.Hope this helps yea.

Thanks for explanation, 5700KV would mean that, for example, if I supply the engine with a 7.4V battery I have 5700*7.4=42180 RPMs????

I have limited what is on my site until my next shipment arrives. I dont like overselling my stock and at the moment I am low on stock because of the holidays. What rig are you putting this in? Is it a basher or a crawler? |

I just picked up Mamba Max 4600 setup and was thinking this would be too much for my high lift. What a good crawler BL motor for this setup. I want walking speed as top speed but a lot of low end torque. I keep hearing about outrunner motors. Would this be a good setup? Or should I just stick with the Mamba Max and stock brushed motor? |

I would use the stock motor with the mamba max at first. It is a niiice brushed esc. As far as a good outrunner goes, how much torque do you want? Do you want axle snapping torque, or less-than-axle snapping torque?

Yep, you'll have that The Novak will give you speed equal to the stock motor, but with much more torque and better runtime. The Mamba/outrunner combo will step up the torque, drop the speed way down, and improve hill-holding. Example: a Park 400 outrunner holds my 9-pound 6x6 on a 45-degree slope at zero throttle. The current Novak 18.5 system won't do that, but the new one they have in development is supposed to be much better. It may still be too fast for you, however. The sweet thing about the Mamba Max is, it works with every motor, brushed or brushless, and programs thru your computer. You can also run up to 12 cells if you desire more speed. The sweet thing about the Novak is, it's simple. Everything's pre-wired and pretty much foolproof. But there are things it can't do. It has to use a sensored motor. The combo does give excellent control and a ton of wheelspeed when you want it. It's not an easy choice to make. Last edited by microgoat; 01-08-2007 at 05:42 PM. |

Yeah, that was the whole reason I went. It was good that they saw first hand our application, and how the controller reacts to the outrunner motor. Patrick spoke some jargon on how they could fix it. They are working on an update for the Mamba Max already, so an update might be worked into this upgrade. I know they are working on a smaller deadband. I showed them how much slower and more consistent a Quark is with a no-load startup. It proved to them that there is room for improvement on the slow speed control.

So a quark is a little smoother than a mamba max esc? I have a quark in my possession. It is only a 80b but that should be good. It should move a txt with an emaxx trans along with a z3025-8 motor. |

Honestly, the only issue with the Mamba Max is start up for me,and it's so little of a problem,it's hardly even worth mentioning. Sounds like Castle will have it taken care of though Even at that, the start up issue is partly my fault. This motor should have a touch lower ratio in the drivetrain. The rock racer in me can't do that though If it was geared about 70:1,the start up issue would probably be non existent on 8 or 9 cells. Right now I'm at 63:1. As far as I know, the programming abilities of the Mamba Max blows the Quark out of the water. IMHO,thats a VERY key feature with the Mamba
