| Plasti-Dipped My servos
I'll be damned if I fry another servo by dunking them in the water. So I chose to dip them in rubberize-it. (also know as plasti-dip just another brand) Bought it at Home Depot for $6.49. Harbor Freight had the plasti-dip brand on their website but I couldnt find it at their store. Anyways, I just dunked the whole thing in the jar and let it dry, then dunked it again. Went on pretty smooth. Just take your time dunking and bringing it out or else it wont look right. I should have covered the servo splines before dipping, but I diddnt. The stuff does peel off, but its a pita. I also had to cut away the stuff around the mounting ears. That left part of the servo unsealed, so I smeared on some silicone to seal it back up. Anyone else use this stuff? I'm probably going to dip my ESC and RX in it. |

quit biting your fingernails, thats what fingernail clippers are for i wouldnt dip the ESC in that stuff, it wouldn't be able to burn off the excess heat ;) |

I used it on my T-Maxx servos when I still had it. Works really well, you may want to put some heavy grease at the base of the spline for extra protection. I think I saw a video of a Plasti-Dipped servo running while submerged in a glass of water once. Effective. Do not dip your ESC in it because it may cause it to overheat. Ever wear a wet suit??......rubber holds a lot of heat in. Not too sure about the receiver either. You may want to stick with balloons for those. |

I meant to post it in electronics. Guess I am a DAN. I was just going to dip the ESC up to the sides of theheat sinks, not actually covering the top of them. Just cover the seams of the case. |

Hmmmmmmmm, wonder if this would work for battery packs. Going to have to build an odd shaped pack for the project truck and was wondering how to seal it all up. Could shrink wrap like a factory battery but because of the shape, dunno. Only thing I' d wonder is since it is a liquid, would it short out the cells when dipping |

Get some and check the resistance, I bet its high enough it won't short out ;)

ok to ans. that qwestion(about the shorting them out) try this before you do this to your batt. take out an old power cord cut the hell out of it plug it in then jump......... hurt like hell didn't it!!!!(you can reply when the current lets you go)Now ..AGAIN!! but with your shoes on!..... aha!! Rubber the insulator! he he(they make it or at least the plasti dip and the "handle gaurd" kind out of rubber becuase if you use electrical tools this way no "hurt like hell") I use to use that stuff all the time,it was the handle gaurd kind at the car install shop a i worked at.It should be fine on the rec. but I'm with him on the esc.. you can also get some brands in neon colors and clear as well as red, blue, green and black.

Yup, Home Depot is where i bought it. Sears has it too. And I bet any hardware store has it as well. Possibly even Kmart and walmart.

i was over at the dells across the street, huge slick rock area, and there were a bunch of puddles all around from the recent rain i have decided to cote the servos but the motors(i have a clod) are they ok? is anthing required to make them safe and is a balloon the best way for the esc and rx? thanks sbj |

balloons are your best option for esc & rx. Keep in mind they can still overheat if the balloons are kept on to long. Motors are fine in water. You will wear the comm and brushes faster. Water is one way of breaking in a new motor. | |
