Default Two dead BECs - Bad luck or am I missing something?

A couple of weeks ago I had a huge drop in steering power in my CC-01. It had the BEC powering the servo directly. Seemed like the BEC went. A quick change-up and I was running off of the ESC until I could solder in a new one.

Now I suddenly lost steering in my Yeti (wired the same way). Took the BEC out of the setup and the steering works. It's not the servo.

So, I did some testing on both setups. I tried hooking up the BECs both ways (powering the servo directly and through the receiver. I've hooked both BECs up to CastleLink and they show the correct settings (and retain any settings I change). I've done factory resets on them. All to no avail.

Both BECs ran fine for a long time. I've got BECs running fine in other rigs as well.

So, am I missing something or do I just have bad luck?

Time to bust out the soldering iron.

If you have a multimeter check voltage on the bec on the black and red wires.

I don't have a multimeter. Maybe this is an excuse to get one!

Upon further review last night, only one of the BECs is failing. The other just came un-soldered (de-soldered?) from the plug. I just couldn't tell because the shrink wrap was kinda holding it in place.

Any idea what sort of amps you're pulling? A stalled servo will pull a lot, and a BEC can have semi-critical components that fail slowly like a punctured tire.

I wonder what kinda amperage you're pulling, if it's heating it up enough to cause the soldered connection to break. Though if you're able to run it off your ESC without browning out, it's likely not how much the servo's pull is.

Must be just luck.
