Default Replacement winch motor/gearbox?

After owning the rc3wd winch for years and using it as just a show piece, I finaly picked up a winch controller. The winch promptly stripped the gearset on my work bench, I suspect some sand/crap went through it.

Cheapest place to get a winch gear box replacement?
Does anyone make an upgraded version?

the rc4wd winches I had were complete garbage.... i went to the warn 9.5cti winch and a heyok wireless controller and have been very happy since..the rc4wd wireless controller i bought for my first winch was also garbage.. a few bucks more, but heyok's wireless controllers are much better, more power from the winch and more holding power...

If you want a super nice winch . Look up the SSD OX Power winch . It has crazy power with hardened steel gears, free spool using spring loaded button, can work with up to 11.1v, comes with some nice line and is said to pull over 60lbs on 11.1 . Get a HeyOK winch controller or small brushed ESC and you will be set .

Here's an actual answer to your question and not just a bunch of dumping on you and your gear...

Stock replacement... 3Racing - Replacement Winch Motor

Upgrade replacement... Commando Winch System - HP Motor Assembly

I have the Commando motor and it's pretty nice. Definitely better than the stock motor. To be honest I destroyed one Commando gearbox but it was during a very demanding and brutal G6 style event where I was on course for about 9 hours and it broke in the 8th hour and held up all day to almost constant use and abuse. Not to mention it spent a lot of time in mud and underwater that day as well.

Another suggestion:
Don't fix the scale winch. Leave it there because it looks scale.
Get yourself a servo winch and mount it somewhere behind the scale winch. Run the winch line out through the old winch.
You now have a really strong winch that still looks scale.

It's a tf2 swb truck, a servo winch would be a PIA because it has to be routed through the front grill.

I may do a servo winch on my scx102 though.

Sounds tough to do.
Some guys have gotten creative with some brake line to route the winch line.
