| 27t motor on 3s questions?
I've been running my Wraith on 3s with a 55t axial motor, AE-5, and stock 12/56 gearing. This has run very cool with excellent torque and a little wheel speed. I just threw a 27t $10 motor with 11/56 gearing in for hahas. Well, I think I'm hooked on the speed and it actually still crawls really well. Problem is that when running high speed it gets hot! Crawling doesn't really heat the motor up too much. I think I am over-revving the motor and that is why it is heating up so much. Without going to brushless, how can I keep this wheel speed with out the heat? Will a higher quality brushed motor run cooler and survive?

A 550 is your only chance at a brushed motor. 550 titan or 550 TrailMaster. You may need to modify they vehicle to fit a 550.

I used to run Titan 21T in my heavy modified Wraith on 3S and guess it survived. ( 11T pinion and 56T Spur ) |

I am also really tempted to test out the TRAILMASTER SPORT 550Sport brushed motor, Unfortunately amain hobbies does not carry. RC Mart do carried, but expensive mail to Malaysia.

| Re: 27t motor on 3s questions? I know both are 550 21t motors and your version has a ball bearing on one end, but are there any other differences? Are the magnets & brushes the same?

550 Titan is a great motor. I wish 550 Holmes were easily available in Canada tho, I'd definitely run those.

The Titan 550 21T with 12/64 gearing on 3S is great. It's like a 28T motor and runs really well for crawling and wheel speed. 12/56 is probably too high geared though to keep it happy if the weather gets warm in your part of the world. 12/64 in a Bomber with a 2sp trans for crawling and bouncing would be about perfect.

you could also go back to the 12/56 gearing which should reduce your top speed a little bit, but should also bring the motor temps down a little bit. Only a little bit..but it may help Last edited by nzcrawl; 05-18-2017 at 10:04 PM. |

I found the stock Axial 540 sized 27T motor with 12/64 gearing on 2S got really hot, really quick. It was basically unusable at 30 degrees C even after minutes. On 3S with 11/56...yikes...it's amazing the smoke didn't come out on that gearing inside a few minutes. I loved the speed of the 27T and found that the Titan on 3S has about the same performance, but more torque and stayed FAR cooler. At 20C, the motor from all out thrashing or even crawling (which gets it the hottest) is just warm to the touch. At that 30C mark it was about 55 degrees C after about 10 minutes crawling around. No comp stuff but still slow crawling. |

Seeing as you've got a wraith, this may apply to you. I have an SCX10 ii RTR version with the RC4WD AX2 2 speed transmission (which says it will also holy into a wraith). It came stock with 15t/60t and with the 21 turn Titan motor I can run a 17 tooth/52 tooth no problem. It's awesome. I'm running the Holmes Hobbies BR-XL (Holmes hold is so awesome, thanks for that innovation, John!) Anyway, have fun and let us know what direction you go! Edit: I'm running on 3s. It's a KOH/crawler build so I can run it on an ultra 4 style trail and keep up with my wraith/yeti buddies Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk Last edited by excabswap; 05-20-2017 at 06:00 AM. |
