So what did you do? Is that a 3d printed case? Can other people get them? How is this done? Where did you get it from? How much did it cost?

I like it and I'm hoping it's something that I can print for myself!

But then they'd be $40.

You're right, probably $30. The SILabs chip on it is $1.25ea per thousand and this is about $0.25-0.50 worth of plastic.

I got a bit confused - I had ordered a few Shapeways items that were mostly to be used for my Ascender, then realized I wasn't using the Castle Link for my Ascender (HW 1080) but later on for my Bomber, so I hopped over here and posted the pic but forgot about adding a link...

I see that the situation is well in hand at this time...

BTW - if we want to start discussing material cost vs retail price, someone needs to remember this is a hobby for those with disposable income.

Tell me that what we pay for R/C crawler tires (for example) is worth it compared to 1:1 car tires.

We pay what we are willing.

(not even gonna start the off-brand "copy" conversation)

Continual reminders of this is not conducive to enjoying the hobby!

Nah, I just don't like exposed circuitry and long connector prongs ... in my pocket or toolbox. The shrink wrap they come covered with yellows and splits over time. It didn't cost me much. It's cute, and even has a big letter "C" on it...

for Castle! (giggedy)

nice work. I have the field link and I have deffinately had some "thats toast" moments with it. Surely there was a more durable construction method available when they designed it...

I had a little card in my Mamba X, that said go to this address, enter this number and get a free link or a field card for $10.00.

Didn't expect this and in the same order I bought a link so I went with the card.

Tires for my 1:1 truck were around $340 each. I paid around $29 for 2 2.2 Pit Bull Rock Beast tires. I figure being 1/10 scale they should cost roughly 1/10th the price of 1:1 tires so I got them for less than half price.

I once bought new tires for a '90 Ford Festiva (145R12 - I've had motorcycles with wider tires!) and paid $30 each... even now that size tire can easily be found for under $40.

They lasted 25k miles...

RC tires aren't complex in any way - just a single compound of rubber into a mold.

Unlike 1:1 tires with their multiple compounds, liners, special bead bundles, fillers, plies and belts.

But they still sell at their exorbitant prices, because we want them...

I only currently own 1 running and 1 unbuilt rock crawler, and am not even planning on ever competing in any way - just in it for fun - and I already own 4 sets of tires!

(I must be nuts... )

That's pretty cool. I keep mine in a old servo box so it and the USB cable are always together and well protected.

I joined here to learn how to build cool stuff from unsuspecting spare parts and scrap materials, not to dispose of my income. Lol.

You must have read the rcc rules correctly which state "all rcc members must have at all times double or more, sets of tires for each crawler they own". Good job with keeping with the rules.

I'll agree this is pretty cool and should work as advertised.

Have to ask though, how often are you guys using the Link or Card? I typically set it up initially, make some changes, and then forget it. Especially with the AUX on the X series, there's no need to go back in and adjust drag brake now.

Love the new cable may have to get one for home and one for the toolbox. As rockhugger pointed out, everyone should follow the rules here. I know I have at least 5 sets of tires for EACH of my 5thD crawlers and shafty just in case they change the rules. Cut and shut set, shaved set, spare new set, the set that actually work and lots of tire pcs left over from "trying something new." Maybe I can glue them back together........maybe.
