I did a quick search, but couldn't find any information on the Futaba S3801. Judging by its specifications, it looks like it would work quite well in a crawler. I found it on tower at: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXH294&P=7 If that link doesn't work, the part number is: LXH294 It has close to 200 oz/inch of torque on 6 volts, and only costs $55. But what really interests me is that it rotates 125 degrees, compared to the typical 90 degrees. This would allow you to use a shorter servo arm compared to a typical servo and still have 100% steering throw. Using a shorter servo arm gives the servo even more leverage on the tires, as if 200 oz/inch wasn't decent enough. Add in the fact that it is supposedly watertight, and it is really starting to look like my next servo purchase. If anyone runs this servo I would appreciate your opinion of it. The only two questionable things about it are the nylon gears used everywhere except the output shaft, and that it lists the 125 degree rotation as "under optimum conditions". What do they mean by "optimum conditions"? It seems to be about the same size as a quarter scale servo, so I suppose that could be a problem for some as well. |
