| Dual Motor Brushless
Is there any ESC that can handle dual brushless motors? Thanks. |

When you mean handle, it sounds like you are asking if an ESC can pass the current pulled by two brushless motors? If you found one it still doesn't matter since the ESC needs to know the rotor position of the motor to control it. So unless someone had two motors in mind when building you won't find one (even then it would be two completely separate ESCs stacked on top of each other).

What if you locked the shafts of two sensored motors together so the rotor position is the same. Then could you not technically wire them in parallel and plug the sensor harness into one motor?

No. We tried it and the performance was less than adequate. You are right in your thinking but it was just too much for 2 3025-8's and 2 5995tg servo's. Ask John at Holmes Hobbies since he is the expert to find out what you can do. Quote:

It is possible, but not practical. You have to be positive that the motors are in synch, and even then there is no advantage to running two motors vs one larger motor. If this is a shafty build you will be better off with one motor and esc. If this is a clod build you will need two esc's.

If your looking for more power,in a shaftie crawler,IMHO.....the Hyperion 3025-8 is all you need. Read my sig |

There are no ESC's available that will run dual brushless motors. The electronics behind such an animal would end up being 2 single ESC's in a single case anyhow. With having to sense the back EMF of a sensorless motor, you need a separate circuit for each motor and separate drive electronics for each motor. With a sensored motor, you still need two separate circuits for position feedback and drive circuitry as aligning the rotors indentically would be nearly impossible without proper lab equipment. The short version is just cough up the cash for 2 ESC's if you're planning a dual BL motor setup. |

Thanks to everyone. I used to race onroad and am looking for a "quick" rock and mud truck set-up. But I want the ease of brushless. Does anyone have any suggestions on a 540 or 550 brushless motor package for this set-up. I will be running clod axles. |

mud and brushless dont mix. Easy way to blow $200 in a few minutes. I would say get some cheap silver tamiya can motors for the mud. If you want to use brushless too, get the mamba max esc's so you can switch back and forth within minutes.

Thank you, do I need to do anything to waterproof the silver cans before I mud it. I thought that the brushless motors would be able to withstand the mud. |

Brushless motors can get in the water, and sure you can run them in the mud too. I would rather trash an $8 motor than an $80 one though, and outrunners would get trashed fastest of all motors. Just my opinion on the matter, if you want to use a brushless motor in the mud go right ahead. It will work. I would tape over the holes on the silver cans to keep mud out, thats about it. Water wears the brushes out faster. |
