Default Servo V Q?

I just picked up a hitec 7980TH for my xr10
I run 3 cell ..the servo says it's designed to run 7.4v
Am I safe to throw it on?

Thanks in advance 🍻

Should be fine, your servo should be powered by the receiver. The ESC is what powers the receiver, via the BEC. Most ESCs are only 6v, possibly up to 7.4v.

Operating voltage range is 6.0 - 7.4 volts

Stall current draw is is 9.9 amps

You need a Bec capable of that voltage range and current draw, a cc Bec would be perfect.

What ESC are you using?

+1 on the BEC.

It will work without an external BEC right up to the point where your ESC's built-in BEC can't supply the current the servo needs. When that happens you'll get brown-outs or jittery steering.

Try it without the BEC first, you might be fine if you don't get into situations where you bind up the steering. But I wouldn't count on it.
