Default Brushless ESC and motor for a 20+ pound crawler?

Looking for some help before I start spending money on something that may not work.
I am building a 1/6 scale CXT 6x6 and want lots of low end torque and control. The truck will be over 20 pounds when done all of the exo cage work.
Haven't decided on a tranny yet but will likely be a built SCX10 tranny.
Anyways, I am going to run 4s lipo batteries and need to know what would be the best motor and esc combo for the size and weight. Also has to be water proof.
Thanks for any help that can be provided.

I agree, that motot looks tough. Not sure how well it will fit on the ax10 tranny with the I greased diameter though. There are also dual motor mounts, but I am not a big fan of those.

Puller Pro 540XL 2100kv and Mamba Monster Max, geared deep.

In my CXT build I'm using a standard Puller Pro 2200KV and a Holmes BLE Pro (with a Mamba Max Pro fan), I'm geared 8/60 with underdrive gears in both axles but my rig is about 15lbs.

Szczerba used a Tekin Roc 412 in the 1200kv flavor with a HH Ble pro on 4s to power his 20lb Cxt 6x6.

Szczerba's 3rd CXT, Build #57

I'm running a ROC 3100 in my 1/6 rig, and it has plenty of power on 2S, gobs of power on 3S. Throws my big truck around like nothing. Mamba max max pro ESC doesn't even get warm. It's a great combo!

Puller pro xl does not have smooth start unless it was recently changed. Holmes has recommended aganst it in crawlers a few times. It's designed for u4 racing I think.

Like stream crossing waterproof or mud waterproof? An outrunner on 4s is killer with crazy low end control but would not recommend at all for mud. The 2100 XL has plenty low end control, just not as smooth as the standard and stubby pros. If youre not competing and bound up all the time it is fine, but really great for blasting down trails or the sand dunes.

The new 1/8 motor looks sweet but would be a squeeze unless you moved the mounting holes out on motor plate on ax10, but will fit on bomber/yeti trans, and there are better low speed options. Marginal but better.

Personally I would go MambaX and 1400kv outrunner. Awesome combo on 4s just no mud

If mud I would go MambaX and 2200 standard pro

Definitely will be seeing mud, water, sand, rocks and everything else out there. It is going to be a do all rig as I have a dedicated rock crawler that stays fairly dry. Starting to thing a Mamba X and Tekin ROC412HD in 1200kv will be the best bet.
