Default Reefs servo junk!!!!

I just want to let you guys know about their lack of quality and durability.

I should've listened to my lil voice about this junk. Both were bought at the same time.

My bro got 2 runs out of his 422hd and it died no water involved. Crap!!!!

I got 3 trail runs out of my crappy 422hd. The top case is cracked and the servo is locked. This was in a new build truck. All trail runs were easy, nothing hard or bashed.

I'll never own another product from Reefs!

Do people have issues with all Reef’s servos or just the 422hd?

I have a handful of reefs 555s and while they work there are issues with the gears being junk. Either they strip easily or the splines pop off due to using the included screw to attach the horn. They were quick to blame people for the spline issue saying they should have used a longer screw. Yea that's nice but I've never seen another servo bust a gear like that so that tells me the material isn't up to snuff. It is also a painfully slow servo but I can get over that if it didn't break.

Thanks for that info. I was actually considering the 444 for my TK and/or TF2. I'm glad I didn't for the TK, and I certainly won't be for the TF2.

Hopefully the 422 HD V2 supplied with the Gen8 AXE Edition does not have this problem...

My bro's top case also cracked. I asked him about his a lil bit ago.
We did set the servo endpoints as always.
I will contact them about a possible warranty replacement.

The Gen8 is a lil heavy, keep an eye on it. If it still has the plastic top case I would pull it and carry it as a backup only.
I traded my 8 for a Euro truck. Man that was a great trade!!!

I'm not surprised at all. It's a Facebook group flavor of the month servo.

It'll probably be worse. They're going to mass produce them for Redcat and most likely cut costs (AKA reduce the quality) of the servo.

I’m just getting back into ry crawling. What’s the high end servo’s that are being run. I have a few Hitec HS-7950TH Servos laying around from old builds that are like new. I ran them with a Castle BEC at 7.4v for a steering breaking 486oz’s.

They were great servos and never failed.

I run Hitec and Savox mostly and I very pleased with performance.
I have a lot of 25t horns. So I usually look for a servo that takes a 25t horn.

Holmes servo... run them in the scale trucks and even race monster trucks (clods) with them, no issues at all.

HiTec servos are my go to as well. I have a few HS-7954’s on different rigs. (All crawlers). I bought one of them when I first got back in to RC about 6-7 years ago and threw it in the AX-10 that got me started in all this sickness. That servo has since been on 3 other rigs and it still functions 100%.

I got caught up in the “What’s the new cheap servo hotness thread” a while back though, and against my better judgement ordered one of the “offshore” servos mentioned in that thread. $19 with like 430ozs at 7.4v. Awesome right!? Wrong! That servo lasted a grand total of 20 mins before it chit the bed.

Long story short, ya get what ya pay for. With the servo being such a critical component in a crawler, I have not and will never again go the cheapo route. (Not that Reef’s are cheap, which is especially troubling given some of the reviews I’ve read).

I run the cheap $12 20kg servos in 3 or 4 different trucks and haven't had a failure yet. I don't run them in my Bomber and Yeti that I hammer on, but in my 1.9 rigs and my one mild 2.2 rig, they perform exceptionally, and they're cheap enough that I won't care at all if I kill one once in a while. I'm going to start using them on my bashers too.

I'm not at all surprised to hear this, sorry you got hit by it though.

I had a bad feeling right from day 1 with this company after they ignored me multiple times because I was asking them hard questions about their servos - specifically questions about what the gears were made of.. Their marketing says "TITANIUM GEARS" I wanted to clarify if they were steel or aluminum coated with Ti (because there's virtually 0 chance they're SOLID Ti as their marketing implies), apparently it's alum which is what I suspected after they refused to acknowledge my question..

I like the point that someone made about these being the latest Facebook flavour of the month servo, I think that's absolutely spot-on.

I've been told if you try to talk to the guy behind Reefs about technical details, it becomes fairly obvious he doesn't really know a lot about servos.

I'd guess his specialty is marketing and how to outsource cheap manufacturing that looks pretty...

Servos have to be the most contentious thing to do with crawlers. For every person that says a Reefs, Savox, G13, Hitec, Protek, Futaba etc is good, there's 5 people that say they're crap. That's why I'm sticking with the cheap ones off Ali Express for now

The only one I'll drop some coin on now will be the HH V3 when it's released
