Default Large Scale Servo - Dedicated Direct Power

Greeting all,

Is there a thread that shows how to set up a dedicated battery to power a 1/5 scale servo? I'm upgrading the servo in the SCX-6, and I was thinking of just having a small dedicated lipo battery to power the servo. How do I set this up?

Thanks!

Its not much different from running any direct power servo aside from the battery having no LVC protection.

I'm using a dedicated 1400mah battery for my servo. I just made a adapter to go from my battery plug to a JST for the servo.

My main battery hits LVC before my servo battery does so I just swap out both at the same time to be safe.

If you want to run the servo battery a bit longer and have some protection you could connect a voltage checker with an alarm so it stops you from running it too low.

I ordered a couple of these... apparently you can just plug the servo into the balance port of your main battery. I suppose you can do the same thing with a dedicated servo battery.

those things are battery killers the ballance port is for ballancing not for unballancing
there there to read the voltage not carry a load

Yeah I have also heard these will kill batteries as they aren't meant to draw from the balance lead. My servo came with those adapters but I didn't even consider using them.

John Holmes makes a point to say those balance taps are a huge no and they invalidate the warranty on his servos

That’s good enough for me. Do you happen to know where he says that, so I can spread the word?

I recall it was in his question and answer thread maybe a year or two back.

somewhere in here: Have tech questions? Will answer.

It's also in all the listing for servos on the HH website.

"If using an ESC with a power switch, the battery must be disconnected from the ESC and servo when not in use to prevent damage to the servo and/or battery. Do not connect the servo directly to the battery balance port. Doing so can damage the servo and will void the warranty. Moly (marine) grease is recommended when lubricating the gears. Dielectric grease is recommended inside the back of the servo if looking to increase water resistance for long term submersion."

You can basically make any servo a direct power servo so long as the servo can handle the voltage you want to put to it.
Just pull the positive and negative wire out of the JST and separate them from the white signal wire. then the red goest to + on the batter and the black to the Neg.
Or get a voltage limiter and program that for the voltage you want to send to the servo, and plug it in. As others suggested, with an adapter to jst from whatever the battery connector is.
