| Motor torque
Ok, I'm a complete newb to RC Crawling. I'm curious what kind of Torque a good Lathe motor will produce. I know most everyone regears to get to a good crawling ratio, but I was thinking about the idea of leaving the gearing closer stock and going with a low RPM high torque motor I have access to.

I haven't decided what to build yet... The concept should be the same regardless. If you can produce more torque, you should need less gear. I just have no idea if a lathe motor makes 50 inch pounds of torque or 5000.

I dont think anybody has measured the torque of a lathe motor . but even with a 55-turn ya have to gear it down , its more of a control issue then torque . hope I answered yur question somehow . |

There's no substitute for gearing down, the lathe motor will just turn slower. The torque gains are minimum.

| Quote: Best bet is to search and start with the most common/popular set up based on the particulars of your ride. Adjustments in motor turns/gear ratio can be made from that point. | |
