Default dual steering servos?

So I just had an idea... The stock servo on my wk SUCKS. You can't turn the wheels unless it's moving, so instead of going out and buying a $50 high torque servo, why not just use two servos? I already have several JR standard servos (45+ oz/in each) laying around from my planes, so why not use what I have. You could just build a dual sided axle mount (already have a single sided one) and use a "Y" connector. As for the drag links, you'd just need two shorties, one for each wheel. I might even leave the cross link (going from one wheel to the other) for extra strength.

So I'd basically double my effective torque (~90oz/in).

Any thoughts?

For that price you could have a tower pro 945 with twice that torque for $22 and not have to deal with the sloppy linkage, extra weight, buying a Y harness and all the linkage, figuring a way to mount it ect.

with dual servo's on each end it would take more power less runtime and like Mnster said for the price not worth it

so the 945 has 180(ish)oz-in of torque?! Did I do the conversion right?

12kg-cm = ~180oz-in

I hate metric-american conversions!!

Depends on the voltage.

yeah, I whipped up a quick and dirty dual servo mount and at first it looked pretty cool, but without a computer controller (3+ channels and programable mixing ability), the servos actually had slightly different throws, so I couldn't adjust the trim for each servo because of the y-harness. I also couldn't use a link between each wheel so one wheel could turn without the other turning (if one was wedged).

All in all, not the greatest idea. Good thought, but bad in application. You're all right, the 945 is worth the $22 for even more torque and less fuss. Glad I didn't cut up my single servo mount!

Lesson learned: Sometimes red-necking a hack job isn't always the way to go. The time I spent making the dual mount and fussing with the servos could have gone into a 945! Oh well, just goes to show no idea is truely "new"...
