| Brushless motor repair? killed 3013
Last week out in Minnesota I was screwing around at my campsite finishing off a battery pack when the truck just quit. Steering still worked so I figured one of the motor wires was pulled but a quick inspection showed everything to be in working order yet the quark just does not realize the motor is there. After much tinkering and evil thoughts I swapped in a revolver 2 and it fired right up confirming that the ESC is good. I pulled the motor apart and I cannot see any wires loose so I am stumped on where to start looking before it is labeled a lost cause and tossed in the box with all of my other broken stuff. The motor wires have continuity between the plug and where the winds begin but I am not quite sure if there is a proper way to check the winding as I normally just toss a dead motor. |

Measure the resistance between all three phases (ie. all 3 motor wires). If any of the readings between the two phases is too high or too low, or very different from each other, then something is probably wrong between those two phases. According to this: http://aircraft-world.com/prod_datas.../z3013spec.htm The resistance of a 3013-14 when you measure it should be 33mohms and a 3013-16 should be 40mohms. So depending on the meter you use, it might not be sensitive enough to detect whether the insulation melted and something got shorted. Is it possible the magnets were killed somehow? I am guessing the motor is either locked up, or you have a broken solder joint somewhere. check the continuity from plug to plug. Make sure that all three phases pass electricity. |

Hmm, I can get current to pass between any two of the motor wires so in my mind the only thing left is that one of the plugs on the motor end of things is fubar so I'll have to try swapping them out for kicks. If that does not solve it then I will just have to wait until the crawlmasters are back in stock |

Well shoot me in the foot! I cut the old plugs off of the motor, stripped the wires and shoved them into the plugs for a mamba 25 and it fired right up There does appear to be a little residue on the old plugs but it does not look like something that would kill a connection, guess not since the solder connections are still rock solid. I still need a crawlmaster though |
