Get thermal paste at your local computer store, then scrape off the old paste, then spread the new, and after that, just reapply. It's just like a computer proccesor.

Clean the heat sink with denatured alcohol first and dont touch it after. Also if you can clean the chips with denatured alcohol on a q-tip. Try not to get any on anything else though.

How'd you manage that? Trying some hard lines trying to get some practice in, or trying hard lines trying to test the drag brake?

Thread hi-jack!! We crawling this weekend? I managed to wreck my front diff yesterday trying to lock it up again...it turned out good though, ordered a bunch of new stuff, not sure if it'll be here before the weekend though...

Thermal paste wont work, you need thermal epoxy. Dont get any epoxy on the FET legs either, it could short them. Put silicone on the legs to protect them, or give Castle a ring.

Done that before, sent it to castle they fixed it for free. I asked about epoxys they said the epoxy is expensive and hard to find.

Pretty much took the esc out of the box installed it in the truck set the truck on the ground Jing Ling ling heat sink fell off.

Same thing just happened to me... GD it! So what is the consensus here? What do I do?
EDIT:

I barely even touched it. $130 and week later, I still got no esc.

Can I zip tie it on there and use it or do I need to send it in?

The guys on the brushless forums have been dealing with this for a while. Not so much the fact that they fall off but more so that the heatsink does not draw much heat away from the fets b/c it is poorly attached from the factory. A couple of us have been removing them and using Arctic Alumina thermal epoxy from Arctic Silver to reattach them and have had excellent results(lower operating temps). Here is a tread on RcMonster about modifying the MM. http://www.rc-monster.com/tempforum/...ighlight=mamba

Sucks. I got a MOPED while I was waiting on the MM and it didn't work. I get the MM and the damn sink falls off. I don't have a Fry's here in Lex and I don't really have time to send this one to Castle (who knows when I would get it back)... I've got to be on the Green River at the end of the month.

I guess the old S.O.B upstairs is telling me I am not supposed to be crawlin' or something.

I appreciate it man but that's like reading Chinese. Oh well.

Edit:

Just called my local computer shop and they have the Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive that is described in the rc-monster thread.

What is the best way to rid the fets off the old crap?

Default Radio Shack

Try Radio Shack they sometimes have it. Use denatured alcohol and a Q-tip. if that doesn't work ask the guys at the computer store what they use but the denatured should work.

OK. Thanks. Wish me luck. I'm not sending this back to have it fall off again.

You should have called Castle about this. You would have already had a new one by now.

I doubt that they would have even received the damaged one if I had shipped it off the moment it fell off (which was approximately 45 minutes after I opened the package). How could I possibly have another by now?

I do know they will back that ESC in the shape that its in. Mess with it and they wont so if you value your $120 or so dollars, send it to CC. I deal with them and they are very cool. Good luck!

Yeah, I decided that I am not going to mess with it. Castle is supposed to give me a holler after their lunch break today. I guess I'll just hope I can get it resolved by next weekend (comp).

Thanks everyone!
