Default trigger not working right

I have an old Futaba FP-2PB radio for my truck. I just got the truck and radio used. Today I finally got around to putting in a new battery pack in the truck and test it.

The trigger only works if I move it forward, moving the truck forward. I assume thats what its supposed to do. But when I move it back it wont move the truck backwards. Is this the way it is or could there be something wrong? IF so, what?

I've played with the Throttle Trim Knob and it only affects where the forward motion kicks in, not the reverse. I also (for kicks) played with the mechanical ATL and had no effect.

I've run down the token charge on the battery pack so will have to wait to charge it before I can test anything further. Until then, anyone have ideas?

This is what I have (old Team Associated RC10):

Looks like the ESC is a Novak, but I can't tell which one from the pic... What Speed Control do you have?
Novak has and still does make ESCs that are forward only. That might be the case here...

forward only would suck. I'll check tonight and post up the specs as best I can see on the unit.
Thanks guys.

That looks like a Novak Racer, the red dot is for the amps. Kind of a slipper clutch, it gradually adds the power. Prevents the whole burn out thing. I have one at home on an old T2. It is forward only, back in the day it was top of the line. Might be wrong, but looks awfully familiar.

The venerable T-4 is forward only. Used to have on in my JRXT... I kinda miss that truck...
