No, just push it with your foot and make "Vroom Vroom" noises.

That's not the right way to go about it. A cheap ESC on a crawler is usually a crap ESC. The most suggested one around here is probably the Super Rooster, and for good reason.

I went cheap with the DuraTrash ESC and of course it didn't work worth a shit!

bought a Super Rooster and the truck now runs like it's suppose to.

The Super Rooster and Tekin Rebel II are the only ESC's that have a 6V BEC (which is needed to power the servos at their full potential. Running a servo on 5V is hilarious. Big bad 645MG couldn't even turn 2.2 Mashers on TLT axles....

so go with the proven Super Rooster, or the new Tekin Rebel II

or you can run a servo to an on off switch.

Twisted whats a msc? Is it a machanical speed control? If it is were do I find them? The reson I said "cheapest" is because at my local hobby shop the novak suff is in the $90's.

Just use an extension cord with one of those wired speed controllers you use for model train sets.

Thumbs up

Hi all, first time posting here.

From what I've read, the Futaba MC230R and MC330R have 6V,3A BECs also. The Duratrax Intellispeed 8T Pro does too.

The Futabas are small and neat. The Duratrax is bigger but more suited for racing since it has a FET output that can power 7.2V FET servos for some really quick response. The Tekin Rebel 2 is a little bigger than the Duratrax but it has a nice 6V, 5A BEC, which should be able to power 2 servos nicely.

The Tekin 2 really looks good at this point, for running 7 or less cells. For higher voltages than that, it looks like you'll need a Novak dual motor esc (Super Rooster, Heavy Duty XR, etc).

Just repeating what I've read.

No.

A rubberband would be the cheapest and least expensive

Sorry to butt in, but the Rebel 2 can handle 10 cells just like the SR.

dont forget the throttle response. it is important to have an instant reverse available to back out of hairy situations.

i dont know if the futaba esc's have that.

an MSC wont work. you will burn out the resistor within minutes from low speed driving.

Yes, MSC is: Mechanical Speed Control.

Here you go. The MSC is the circuit board with all the wires tied together with the blue tie-wrap.

But like everybody is trying to tell you, you’ll be wasting your money.
You still need to purchase a servo & fab up a linkage to operate it. :?
Just park the truck until you save up enough money to purchase a Super Rooster.

Congratulations. You’ll be much happier with it than trying to use a MSC.

I can not find a link to the 20.00 super rooster on ebay? That is a $120.00 esc so I would hesitate before believing because it is too good to be true. Make sure it is the super rooster and not just the rooster. p.m. me the link and I will buy all of the $20.00 new super roosters he has got and make a $100.00 profit each;)

The Rooster has a BEC rating of 5.7Volts / 0.5 Amps. In comparison the Super rooster has a BEC rating of 6Volts/3 Amps. (specs from the Novak website)
You will probably have to run a reciever pack in order to use 2 servos on the vehicle when using the regular rooster (the reason people use the SR instead).

i have a MC330-R in my crawler. i just built it so i haven't got to put it in any real situations yet. i have however noticed that i will be getting the Tekin Rebel before spring.

forward throttle responce is very nice. you can gradually get on the throttle and move slow and very smoothly.

however. the reverse function has some to be desired. not only does it have a double pump reverse, you have to hit the reverse twice to kick it in, but it seems to jump into reverse. rather hard to control your speed when backing up
