Default antennae

just curious, since we all are within a few foot of our rigs while crawling, would it hurt to chop down the antennae? mine is like 2 ft long and am tired of trying to spool it and wrap it etc...everytime i do a teardown and rebuild.

Just take a piece of lexan and drill holes up both sides and then just thread the ant. through it. That way it can be mounted/unmounted easy, but you will still have a good range if you need it.

any twitching with that? have seen it on some racers but figured we are never more than a couple feet from our rigs i could just chop it and run it to a scalish bumper whip antennae!

Most of the compers at Disney had that setup and I didnt see any glitching. I think that cutting some off for a more scale look wouldn't hurt anything except the distance that you could be away. Just try it and if it doesn't work out, you can always solder a new wire on!

I really wouldn't just go and lop off some antenna wire. Isn't the length of the antenna determined by the frequency of your radio and not just some random length? It usually says somewhere in your user manual about not cutting the antenna but oddly enough it rarely not tell you why this should not be done.

Here is a great article on antenna length -a little too technical for me but it may answer your question.

i run a airtronics m8 and i was taking muy reciever out of my losi mf2 st

and i kinda pulled it out fast and broke the wire so it was not about 6in i

was skechy at first about running it but i paid so race so i did and it

worked fine ever sience and that was at a track so i wasent exactly close

to my truck

so i dont believe it will be hurting any thing to give it a chop

I've always been told not to cut it. If you need to, coil it up. If you ever pull it out of the rec., or need to replace it, it's not tough to do......just solder a new one the same length to the circuit board.
