Default Tekin FXR brakes in a Berg....

I had an FXR in my GC2 and loved it. I took it out of my GC2 and put it in my Berg and it has lost a ton of holding strength. I used to run a 5 or 6 strength on my brakes and it was more than enough. Now I maxed them out (10 or 11 strength) and it will not hold the rig on a steep climb. It makes downhilling great, but the uphills you can't stop and hold anymore. Anyone else experience this or have any insight?

Running 3C lipo with 55T Integy's and stock 12T pinions. CC BEC.

Hey Casey it must be the difference in weight your GC2 was very light and I'll bet your Berg is a lot heavier?

Have you tried the Hotwire, I think it will allow more brake adjustment. I'm running my drag brake at 90% and it will hold nearly vertical. Another thing I've noticed is the high wind lathe motors don't seem to have the same magnet strength that stock racing motors do.

It may be bacuase a Berg doesn't have as much gear reduction as a Shafty with a trans.

Mine was holding great on smaller inclines, but on steep verts it was creeping back.

It basically has to do with the weight of your Berg. I run at about 32% on my shafty but it's very light weight. I have yet to get my Berg together for testing.

Something to check as well would be the motor brushes. Are the motors new or used?

Something else that I want to find out is how the FX-R handles dual motors for braking. Does it cut the effective percentage in half when using dual motors?

I'll find out the details and post up here shortly

Same motors between the two rigs? My first thought is the integy motors- they just don't have much drag.

Handwound 45tmotors with stock berg pinions. Zero problem with drag brake.

Integy 55 turn with drag brake set to 3 and stock OCM pinions, no problems. Great little ESC!

Well I just got through speaking with Tekin and they have confirmed (as I thought but didn't want to say without being sure ) that the 2 motors receive equal drag brake. If you set it to 3 (30%) then each motor with receive 30%.

Another thing to try would be to reset the radio to all neutral points, and reset the Tekin ESC, just to start with a fresh foundation.

Let us know what happens

Thanks guys. I will reset the Tekin and reset the radio back to all stock settings and start over to try again. The brakes aren't bad, they just aren't nearly as strong as they where in my Axial.

Something I figured out this weekend. While turning the front axle (when it is not powered up) the front motor acts as a generator and actually powers the rear motor and makes it turn. This may be why the drag break does not work as well. One great trick with the Bergs and the Rizzo DIG setup is the DIG can also act as a break. I was able to make some pretty sick descents using independent rear breaks.

x2... i'm still tweaking my fxr drag brake on my berg but found out with the front dig on, it worked great as a stronger brake for that controlled downhill maneuvers.

I did try to reset the FXR and the brakes just are not as strong as they were before. It does allow a nice controlled very slow roll while going downhill. The only bad part is that if you are going up something very steep and stop, it will not hold the spot.

I have used the DIG to go down some very sick downhills, too. It works great.
