Nicklepimp's Team Eritex Berg Yep, I picked up a pair of Berg axles a little while back. This will be my '08 Nats rig. Specs Berg Axles Custom Eritex Chassis Eritex Beadlock Rims Integy 55t lathes CC Mamba Max MaxAmps 3s 1100mah Lipo JR 8611a Servo Electro Dig Start off with the chassis. We talked to Gerame (Eritex) about doing a chassis. He said to send him a pic of what we wanted. So I used Photoshop to plot out where I wanted the links/shock mounts based off my previous rigs. Sent him the pic and measurements and he came back with this sexy thang: When I got it in the mail, I couldn't wait to mock it up. I haven't even cut the skid or braces yet. Next I clocked the axles. My first attempt didn't go so well. Farakai came up with an easy template out of lexan. In one direction, the notch lines up prefectly to the factory holes, then you just rotate it and mark for drilling. Flip it, and do the other side. It worked perfectly. End result: Clearance. It looks like I should end up with over 3.25" of clearance at the chassis.

In order to make the links, I need to solidify the width. So I cut a skid plate out of a cutting board. The outter width is now set to 2" wide. I like the angle the shocks sit at now. Then made some braces to match. These will also be used as the base for my body mounts. While I was in the cutting mood, I decided to make a servo mount. Fortunately you can buy these brackets seperately. I placed the mounts at the farthest ends for the most clearance. Then I just cut a piece of delrin to match the mounts.

Next are the links. I made my own out of threaded rod, aluminum sleeves, and Traxxas rod ends. It's been my prefered method since day 1. Gerame did a great job with this chassis. The mounting points are exactly where I wanted them. Thanks again Gerame! After mounting the servo and making steering links, I encountered the problem people are having with this. This will not work. I have a couple ideas in mind. But that will have to wait for right now.

Thanks Diesel. I changed them tonight actually. I didn't like how high the servo sat. I chopped the mounts and flipped the servo horn. This will work for now. The servo is about a quarter inch lower now. And there's no bind in the steering. I'll probably end up changing it at some point, but I'm going to run it like this at next week's comp.

Thanks Kevin, but if all things go as planned I'll be out of town and Greg and his boys will be camping. :-( Your not going to let that candy ass Jay call you Pimples are you? You could seriously FU his score sheets. |

I am interested in why you didn't run a cap screw up from the bottom of the arm and put the nut on top of the rod ends? Seems to be a bit much hangin down.......

tjb......the nut on top of the links is closer to the tire, so then it is more likely to tear a tire (especially true if running Panthers). That is one reason some, me included, went to AX10 knuckles up front, to use the inner steering holes to move the linkage back and away from the tires.
