Default The Zero 4.0

Well I decided to switch over to the Zero 4.0 and the wider skid (I was running the narrower skid for the OCM)

I am very happy with the change .It opened a little more room in between the chassis plates for a larger battery and allowed me to stand my shocks up more than the 3.5 chassis allowed with the 4 inch shocks and still keep a good low ride height.
I also moved the ESC to the rear axle with the help of a Kamikaze Kustoms rear electronics mount. And I switched out my rear aluminum lower links to a set of Kamikaze Kustoms machined high clearance delrin links with revo ends.

Here is a list of all the parts I used for this build.

Kamikaze Kustoms 4.0 chassis
Kamikaze Kustoms high clearance lower links
Kamikaze Kustoms dig tray
Kamikaze Kustoms delrin rear axle stay
Berg axles
Panther tires
Mayhem eng. berg offset delrin 7's
CC Sidewinder ESC
CC BEC
JRH hand wound 45T motors with stock pinions
Hitec 5955 servo
Thunder Power 2000mah 3cell lipo

A few pics

Looks great Joe!

I was also contemplating running a wider skid. The normal skid is a bit tight for some of the larger lipo packs needed when running a MOA setup.

Looks great Joe. I am liking the advantage of being able to stand the shocks up a little more and avoid any binding issues that the 3.5 has (but it still works great)

The skid that I am using on this truck is the skid that comes with the Zero now.I believe it has been that way for a while. The skid I was running was one of the first that we cut and used Jeffs OCM skid plate as a template. When the berg came out it used wider chassis braces and skid.

There is not a ton of difference the original skid was about 45mm and the current skid is 50mm

There was just enough difference to allow me to go from a TP 1320 3cell to a TP 2000mah 3cell.
I was having issues with the smaller battery keeping up with the increased draw of the JRH motors over the Integy motors. The new 2000mah should keep up just fine and is a extremely good fit.It is about 48mm wide and the same length and height as the 1320.

You should be able to get the bind out by spacing the shocks out from the chassis.
Personally I hate the loop on top of most shocks. It is now were near as smooth as a captured ball end .

I have a question as My front shocks are mounted similarly. When you turn dont the tires rib the springs?

I do think I'll be swapping to the 4.0 as well and doing those Traxxas cap mods to get rid of the fuel tube mounts.

Yes they do rub but not enough to hurt any thing.

I have been using the JP customs 90mm's and drilling out the top loop to accept the berg rod ends, been working great for me, with no binding.

I'm running the Losi shocks, and the OCM/Berg rod end/ball fits in them perfectly!!

The truck looks good Joe.

How much taller did it make your rig running this chassis over the 3.5?

Originally I was running the shocks like that just to get them out as far as I could for stability but now I have found out it helps on clearance for the new rear links.

The chassis is about 30-35 thousands taller than the 3.5 i do believe. But I set the truck lower by a 1/4 so not much at all. I was also able to set the body lower by a 1/4 since I did not have to clear the ESC any more.

Awesome! Thanks!!

I'm anxiously awaiting my 3.5 to arrive so I can get everything switched over and try one of these plastic chassis's!!

I have my links and shocks set up basically the same. I found that spacing the shocks helps with the smoothness on compression and all the reasons joe stated above
