Default Berg Questions issues and drivetrain

I'd like to build a berg, looks like it does well

But I hate gears that break becuase I think it's ridiculas they make it weak.

How are your Axles and gears holding upand what are you driving them on

Also why is there so many names : En Route, Berg, OCM, Zero

Who is manufactuer and where are they based

I haven't heard of anyone having issues w/ the Berg gears yet. The stub axles have have some failures but are interchangeable w/ Axial stubs for an inexpensive and easy fix. Also there have been a few inner axle failures and replacements have been spotty.

As for the name, OCM was the original importer in the US. En Route is the manufacturer and they call it the Berg if I remember correctly. Zero is the chassis from Kamikaze Kustoms that has been extremely popular and successful w/ the Berg axles.

I believe En Route is based in Japan.

OCM built it first as the "newage" Those axles are black. Somewhere along the line they sold the design to EnRoute, who now makes it and calls it a "Berg" Berg axles are silver. I think EnRoute is a japanese company. The Zero is a chassis specifically for the newage/berg axles, designed and built by Kamikaze.

I love my berg and I've not broken anything yet. Replacement parts are a little scarce, but that's my only beef with them.

i had 1 issue with the axles while i was putting it together yesterday . the tolerances on the gears and the bearings are critical and i thought i had a bad gear set . here are the pics
this bearing was just slightly out of the slot and was hitting the output gear ever so slightly and making a grinding noise every revelution

as you can see super tight gear box

could i run it like that sure but why take the risk, so far the gears look to be hardend metal gears so it would probably take alot to strip them or a bad placement on the motor pinion

The only gear issues I have heard of thus far has been due to people running standard pitch pinion gears. The gears in the cases are metric so you have to make sure you have the correct pinions if you swap out the stockers.

Wow , thank you guys for clearing that up.

kamikaze said he is shearing gears with 2.2 tires.
So I was wanting to know where the better gears are to be had.

guess there is no rush, I'm out of a job so I cant be spending money, actually selling my AX axles and bunch of other Rc stuff

He is ripping the teeth off of gear 2 the little gear. But you need to know that is with 35t motors on 3 cells and his name should explain the rest

They are the best axles out if you want my opinion. My first set I hammered the living hell out of them just to try to get something to break. For testing purposes of course! I was only able to break one stub, a shaft and strip one gear. Since I have been driving my other set pretty hard and have only bent stubs. Axial stubs fixed that.

Yeah, anybody that's ever seen me drive knows I'm not easy on binding them up.. and I've yet to strip a gear. But like 666 said, I have bent all 4 of the stock berg stubs. Axials are in their place now..

The bergs have taken 50 times the torture of anything I have driven. I was just trying to keep you from building a super out of them. To this day I have only broken 2 of the small gears, but we are talking about launching off 6ft drop offs at full throttle when my top speed is 12-15mph easy then hitting the ground and never letting out............They are awsome, just swap the stubs and under normal to harsh use they will be bombproof.

oh ok I just read that you sheared them on 2.2 tires

thanks for all the input guys

If something does not come out that's better than Berg I will build a 2.2 with them.

As for building another Super, I'm not sure, the clod stuff is clunky and a lot of $$$ to get built tough

Right now I'm enjoying my NEw Super except for Dam stupid BM16 brushless motor that I need to grind a flat spot on the shaft.
has some great power and wheel speed though
