Default Tires hooking steering?

I got to run my berg today for the first time and it works great except for when the front tires wad up they hook the steering. It tore a pretty good size hole in one of my new tires and I am evening running a pretty stiff foam setup. What are ya'll doing to keep this from happening? I have the template for the OTA draglink I am gonna try to get that cut out but I was looking and I dont think the stock servo mount can be used with that.

I do plan on going to that eventually but I have a comp this weekend and dont have to time for that. Do you know with Axial knuckles fit on these axles?

I use to rip tires but after a change to a way stiffer foam and a little vaseline on the top of the screws going through the steering links I have not had a single issue in 2 months on any of our rigs.

This will also fix the issue

Even with that tie rod you will still have the screw sticking up from the knuckle causing it to hook it. If adding that is helping it just have to be because you are drilling the whole closer to the axle so I should be able to just make my own tie rod and drill a new hole.

That was the whole idea, that and it clears the gear case lock to lock, but yes you could make your own.

Yes axial knuckles will fit with little grinding.

But Yes you are right, drilling new holes 1/4'' in will help with not tearing your tires.

You do drill a new hole back closer. The reason for the raised part of the link is to sit up over the diff after you move it back.

On a side not I run a stock style tierod (but made of steel) in the stock location with that screw sticking up you are talking about and Like I said I do not rip tires

I will try just swapping to Axial knuckles and see if that helps. I will probably go ahead and make the OTA tie rod too. I will be ordering a package deal from kamikaze hopefully next week.

When you say in stock location, meaning the stock holes and not new holes drilled right ?

I haven't caught/cut a single tire since I drilled new holes and cut the arms

I never had a tire catch on the screw, mine always caught on the bottom of the knuckle. I tried to drill holes in closer, but I ended up breaking a tap off in the hole, so I stuck some axial knuckles on it. Just put the steering rod on the inner hole and ground the excess off. Just know that RCP and STRC axial knuckles won't fit in most berg offset wheels, you need something like HR or RC4WD knuckles that have the same profile as the stock axial knuckles.

Edit: newer STRC knuckles have the same knuckle arm profile as the RCP ones, and they will not clear berg specific beadlocks (I've tried). I'm using the older, stock copy STRC knuckles with no issues.

I'm running the STRC knuckles with plenty of clearance, I'm using Harleys BTA/OTA link tho.
