Default Gear mesh and Berg stall

I have just almost finished my build, but having never had a set of these axles I could use a couple of answers if you don't mind.

I like a quiet rig, so I keep the gear mesh on the loose side. In the front, I can't get it where I like without a "click" from the slight play in the mesh. Is that too much play?

And I have heard you can "adjust" the amount of stall with gear mesh tightness. Do any of you do that? Is it tighter in front and looser in rear to reduce stall while climbing?

Thanks... and my build thread will be coming soon

I do the opposite I mesh the rear tighter than the front. It helps when you dig.
And clod stall is not a bad thing once you learn to power through it.

Yeah, I like the stall... but I don't remember it being as bad in Stacys rig. If mine gets on a steep climb at a slow crawl, the back wheels will stop completely like a front dig until I get on it.

It just seems like a little to much.

Sinch that gear mesh down. Learn to use the stall....and the throttle.

I've done chunked my front gears....still useable though. It may have been from using Robinson Racing pinions. I know I had my gear mesh allot tighter than I ever ran it on my other rigs.

I am running RR pinions.Make sure they are metric and not standard.

What gear turned loose in your axles steve?

They were metric...at least thats what the package said. Only the front gears got chewed up,rear axle was still pulling like a mad man.

The pinion took the most abuse. All the other gears are chewed a little but some little files at work cleaned them up enough to still be useable I think. Since the rear axle stalls more,I put these gears in the rear. Hopefully they'll hold up for this weekend.

That is just odd.Usually if something breaks in my axle it is either a inner (broke one at mid west) or the small gear 3.And when the gear breaks it has always been due to bearing failure.
Maybe a peice of trash was left in the housing when they were made? Also something to look at is all the axle tube and upper link mount screws.I hear if they are not tight they can cause issues.

I tried them tight and I cringed at the noise every time I pulled the trigger . Loose and quiet they still stall just fine, and I am starting to get the hang of it.

I changed my anti-squat and that helped some too.

Now I just need a 3s battery

ive been running the mesh on my bergs just like i had on every other RC car ive ever owned. not too tight or too loose. just last night, i broke my first berg gears. shredded the small side on gear 3 and all of gear 4. i'd say thats pretty good for running them since last summer.

Allot better than half a pack,I got about 20-25 minutes out of mine before they let loose.

Berg pinions or RR pinions?
