Default dpdsurf's Fubar Skeeterberg

Well I guess I'll do a post build thread. I have been running this chassis since late December and have been extremely happy with it.

- Berg axles
- Fubar Crawlers Skeeter Chassis
- Fubar Crawlers axle lockouts
- CKRC High Steer Knuckles and OTA rod
- Losi 4" Shocks
- Vanquish DH Procomp Wheels, 335 F&R offset
- Eritex Berg offset wheels modified by JeepinDoug
- Panthers, Rock Claws, Rovers...ah not so much but sometimes
- Tekin FXR ESC
- HH P-94 45T motors
- Thunder Power 2250 3S 35C
- JR DS8711 steering servo
- DX3R radio

Axles clocked with JeepinDoug's clocking tool.

I went 20 degrees front and rear. The rear upper links are 5mm longer to clock it further.

I liked the way Yotachump did his dig. This dig unit takes the place of the rear chassis braces. I originally had the Radio Shak switches and a cheap $10 servo. It started acting up a little. This setup is much more robust. I got the switches here. http://www.newark.com/honeywell-s-c/...tch/dp/50F5163

I'm using a JR DS290G Micro Servo. It uses a full size servo horn and is real smooth.

I did not have any black delrin handy so I had to use this ugly teflon impregnated stuff. It works.

I like the longer skid. Also, I can run the belly at just under 3-1/2" for awesome breakover clearance, yet it still climbs and side hills amazing.

Another thing I have found with Bergs is that articulation is your friend again. The long upper links mounted inside the chassis really helps the articulation. I tried them on the outside and it just limited it too much. I'm running 4" Losi shocks without any limiters. I've played with their mounting position and have settled with the outward holes to get them the most upright. Though with bigger tires like rovers they seam to like the number two hole better for climbing.

Mad4rnr made the "Mad Dog Rc" links for me. They are made from 1/4" 6061 aluminum, bead blasted for a nice satin finish. He will also polish them if you like.

Front uppers: 120mm I2I, Rear Uppers: 125mm I2I
Lower Links: 120mm I2I for 12.5" wheelbase on the Skeeter.

Uroplatus does nice body work!

I picked up some Vanquish DH's. These wheels are way more that just bling. They are incredibly easy to mount tires on with a wider groove for the bead than other wheels. Also, the threads on all of the screws is course which speeds up install time. A very well thought out wheel.

I'm running Panthers at the moment, but the Claws may come out again. I can't wait for Losi's new tire to come out!

Looks good Dave.

I like how you mounted the upper links on the chassis, I might just have to flip my bolts around also, Keep those screws out of the way.

Did you have to grind on your CKRC tie rod to get it to clear the servo mount with the 20* clock?

Those links look familiar, Erik does nice work. The 50/50 bends seems perfect for a Berg with clocked axles.

It's probably closer to 3.25 now with the Panthers. But to answer your question, it climbs and sidehills everything others can in comps, and breaks over better. I've watched many get high centered and take out a gate while my rig just rolls up and over like it was a speed bump.

Thanks. Yeah having the nuts outside allows my battery to sit flat.

I ground the tie rod to clear the servo horn, servo mount and knuckles on the axle. It had nothing to do with the clocking really. I still have 1/8" between the servo mount and the motor. I'm constantly messing around with the steering and just can't seam to make it perfect. I get full lock, the horn just sticks out further than I'd like.

Yep, Erik does nice work on the links. I think there's at least 10 Skeeters out there with them.

Looks great. Skeeter is so clean

I need to swap my upper link bolts like that as well.
I am running my links the same except the rear is up one hole for extra clocking. So far I am liking it. Ground clearance is good right there too.

Thanks I just noticed I left out some completely finished pics. These were taken a few weeks ago when I re-wired it.

I don't know Anthony, looks like there is 2.375" too much of wire on Dan's. His CG is probably ruined now.

Here's some more pics in it's current config.

Here you can see the clearance with outboarding the nuts.

Love the break over

These b4/t4 motor guards were a great idea of Killjoyken's.

3-1/4" with the Panthers in it's sag

3-1/2" lifting up on it

Nice vinyl transfers

John has made the bold move of coming out with a new body. Very innovative. Just waiting to hear back from the Body Police. :-P

Yeah the motor guards work great. The best part about them is they protect the end bell and brushes.
