Default Kami 3.5 or 4.0 question

What is the difference between the Kamikaze 3.5 and 4.0. I know one says to use 3.5" shocks and one is 4" shocks. Can you use 4" shocks on the 3.5 and just limit them?

Yes, limit them or lay the shock down more. There's several holes in the chassis for shock adjustment.

You can use 4 inch shocks with the 3.5.
Depending on the ride height you want you may have to limit the shocks a lot and lay them down.
If you are going to mod your shock caps I would strongly recomend going with the 4.0.
The best setup I have watched work lately is the 4.0 with a 90mm shock.
That is if you like a nice low setup.

You SHOULD use 4" shocks on the 4.0. If you limit the shocks on the 3.5 you will also have to use heavier oil and springs. The more laid out the shocks are the less the springs and oil affect articulation in both overall amount and resistance. In other words laid out shocks, even when limited, may allow for too much and too easy articulation...

I would like to know why you SHOULD use 4 inch shocks with the 4.0?
Please share your wisdom with us.

Well lets try this on for size.
I may know a little about it.The 4.0 was designed for me
In no way is the 4.0 just for the use with a 4 inch shock.
As a matter of fact Jeff (Kamikaze) is running 90mm on his 4.0
If you run the 4.0 with a 90mm unmodded shock you get a very nice 2 5/8 GC if you use the shock mounting hole at the end of the chassis.
A 90mm shock with a modded cap would put it around 3inches about the same as a unmodded 4 inch shock. Then a 4 inch shock with a modded cap requires you to limit about 3/16 of a inch and lay the shock back a hole or two for the same GC.
Sounds like the 4.0 is pretty versatile to me.

Thanks Guys for the information. I was really just worried about having to buy another pair of shocks especially if I did not need to. Didn't mean it to turn into a slug fest. I appreciate everyones info.

I run slightly limited 4" shocks on my 3.5 and love it. Adjust your shocks, oil, limiters, etc to fit your type of terrain and drving style. Some people like more GC than others and vice versa. Also what works in Ky or Tn probably won't be the hot set-up on the west coast, or the northeast, etc etc.

Very true. I try to listen and learn from what Joe and Jeff say about the KK chassis line. That being said, I tried 90mm shocks on my 4.0 with a GC of 2 5/8" and hated it. I was getting hung up on everything and not able to clear some break break overs that are typical in our courses. I currently use a limited 4" shock that is layed down to get the GC at 3" and it works great here. It may be too high for the terrain in other places, but it works great for where I crawl in MN.

Either one is a sweet chassis. Plus Kamikaze's warranty rocks. I'm running the 3.5 with limited losi shocks.
