Well, I have been running this KK 4.0 Berg for quite a while. I built it this winter and it has gone thru a couple of changes to get as it sits now. I love this rig and it has been good to me....good enough to qualify me for RCC '09 Nationals! Berg axles (front unclocked, rear clocked at the axle tubes, more on this later) Axial stubs KK 4.0 chassis and medium clearance links f/r Traxxas Bigbore shocks, 20wt oil, white Losi springs (trying Slash rear springs now) HH 35T motors 3s 25c/32c 1300 battery dual Tekin FXR's JR8711 servo (has a 9100T case as I broke the 8711 case) Futaba 4PK (Thanks Harley for all the programming help...love the radio) VP's with white rovers, stock foam front and rear Lonewolf Designs skids (just put them on and love them) Well, here is a side shot. Nothing too special, it is a little beat up. The Rovers are pretty new and the VP's are the back up pair....not scratched up yet. No body posts in front, body clips attach to the ends of the chassis. Front end with aluminum servo clamps, Reign servo guard, KK steering rod and a Robitronics servo horn. Shot of the back of the truck showing the nearly parallel uppers. The uppers have Axial offset rod ends to prevent the uppers from hitting the gearcase. JP lockouts are pretty new, lot less slop than the others I have tried. The rear axle is clocked at the axle tubes. I did this so the front and rear shock angles are the same. Just a shot of the underside of the back of the truck. Shot of the front upper links and battery placement. I had the battery on the skid and electronics on the KK electronics tray, but moved stuff to the current position for a couple of reasons. First, I wanted to move the weight in the truck lower and forward. The battery under the upper links is lower than the skid and is more forward. The electronics have been dropped over an inch and now rest on the skid (on a piece of lexan). Also, this reduced the unsprung weight sitting on the chassis. Shot from above showing the electronics on the skid. I will be testing some Blue Rovers and Losi Comp Claws, too. I may try the new Mayhem wheels, too, but not sure on them. Thinking of asking Jeff to cut a skid about 1/2" narrower and mounting the upper links to the outside of the chassis. This would make the skid smaller. I can't see any drawbacks to this, except the shock mounts would be pretty spaced out from the chassis. Anyone else see any negatives to having a narrower skid and the uppers on the outside of the chassis? |

Very nice! I just tried the white rovers this past weekend. Took 2nd at the TN state Championships. I like the rovers for the height but they dont wad up like the panthers do.....I will keep both depending on the terrain. As far as the skid goes, I dont think I would want my shocks spaced that far out. You will start bending and breaking screws too easily. You might be able to get away with doing the traxxas yolk mod though......... |
