Default Project Evil Midget Tuber

Got bored yesterday, so I started building a berg tuber. I don't know yet if I'll run it or if my buddy Greg will run it (he bought the axles).

Anyway, the chassis is bare minimum spec for the 2.2 class (8" long, 3.75" tall, and 3" wide). It's welded 3/16 brake line & 1/8"x1/2" flat stock. Links are 5/16" Delrin rod w/ Revo link ends. There's just enough room at the bottom of the chassis for a 1350mah Lipo.

Wheelbase will be right at 12 1/2", and with the Chisels, it'll have 3 1/4" ground clearance...less with the Panthers or Hammers.

I have the full rear suspension mocked up using Jato shocks (I still need to pick up some yellow (softest) springs).

My Axial based tuber completely dwarfs this thing. The chassis is tiny!

I still have to weld on the front upper link mounts, drill for front shock mounts, and then clean up the rest of the welds. Then it'll be on to paint!

Chassis is done & painted.

I've also got the skins painted for it.

Now it's time to make the front links. Probably won't get to it for a couple days.

I love the homemade stuff. I'm blessed to be a machinist and make my own chassis' all the time. Make your own and believe in it man! Awesome.

Thanks. I agree completely! It relaxes me to build stuff like this. Not to mention the sense of pride when you take it to a comp & place higher than alot of more expensive, buggies that were bought.

Yessir! 8" long, 3.75" high & 3" wide. That's minimum spec according to 2009 USRCCA rules.

Oh, and here's some pics with the skins on. Gotta represent WPAC!

Here ya go...an early tech inspection. It's close, but legal.

8" long

3.75" tall

3" wide

Side panels are 2.5" long, and well over an inch high. The roof line is about 2 inches higher than the rest of the chassis. It's a squeaker, but according to the 2009 USRCCA rules it's legal.

and here's one next to a 20oz Diet Pepsi bottle :confused0068:

Got the shocks mounted & measurements for the front links. I just need to build & mount the front links, then it'll be time to start wiring it.

and here's what I welded it with...a Hobart Handler 187. A bit crude, but with alot of grinding, it turned out ok.

Just a quick question... what do you think of battery position? I can either mount it (3s 1350mah Lipo) on the rear axle or on the chassis. Any thoughts?

I'd run it on the rear axle. That way you have room up i the chassis for a clean electronic install. Thing is looking really cool man.

It's now a roller. Until Greg (the owner) decides what tires he's going to run on it (I'm pushing for Panthers), I mounted up a set of Losi Rock Carvers on CAC wheels.

Now it's time for motors (waiting on a Holmes 35t), and electronics. It should be running by the weekend.

It's getting:

- Castle Sidewinder ESC
- Castle BEC
- JR robotic servo
- CKRC 3s 1500mah 20c battery
- Homemade dig switch (servo & 2 RadioShack switches)

I'm debating on a tooth higher gearing in the front axle...any thoughts?

Here's some pics:

Barely making the recommended specs, I'm thinking that a tuber might be another route to go. You have tons of clearance. how is the weight? It looks really good and competitive!

It's really light. I can't seem to find my gram scale (I have one for mixing vinyl dyes for work), so I didn't get a chance to weigh just the chassis. It is very light, though, and will only have a Sidewinder ESC, dig switch, CC BEC, and a small DSM2 RX on the chassis.
