| JeepinDoug's OTT Berg
Hopefully I'll have weekly updates on this rig. OTT means Over-The-Top if you don't figure it out by the end of this first post. First up, VP wheels. These were straight out of the package and into the machine, (bought from JPH, thanks Jake). I didn't like the width or offset. Machined from 1.200" width to 1.075" wide. .125" deeper offset in the rear. .069" deeper offset for the front. A little extra weight taken from the core diameter. Not pictured, is more I had to counter bore the inside face to clear the knuckles which did not change my offset. Next up......axles! These are not finished yet. Again, straight from CKRC and into the machine. Fluted and shaved tubes. Lightening holes for the gears. So far 1.5 oz off each axle, weighed complete less hexes and pins. For example; Long tube bare weight stock 121.5 grams Mod'd 92.5 grams Short tube bare weight stock 68.0 grams Mod'd 56.0 grams Main gear stock 11.3 grams Mod'd 8.9 grams I still have more work on these axles but now you probably understand the OTT. |

Wow, that is awesome work. I love what you did to the VP wheels and the berg axle tubes look great. Is your goal an extra lite weight berg?

So I don't come around for a few weeks and this is what you do.... The flutes will never work, well they should help keep you from falling off curtain rocks. Can't wait to see where this goes |

Thanks guys, every little gram counts and they add up fast. Not sure on a chassis yet, I'd like CF, so yes to answer Nova's questy....as light as it can get without sacrificing reliabilty. The tube wall thickness is .160" stock. I could have machined more then I did safely, I think. Scott, the flutes are only over the top, (did I say that again?), the underside is shaved. |

Great machine work. I only wish I had 1/4 the talent and 1/2 the tools you have. |

Very Nice Machine work. Wish I had the tools and patience for something like that. My axles would look like swiss cheese where I went too deep. Two |

Sweet machining bro! I just did something similar to my vp's. Do you know the before and after weights of the wheels? I only lost about 1oz each wheel but I didn't make the channel as wide or as deep cause I was chicken:-P

Wow! I can understand the loosing weight in the gears, but why the axles and wheels? Don't we add weight to the wheels? |

| Yes, but now he has more control over where the weight is. I have also found that lighter Bergs, especially in the rear end are climbing monsters for example. Vanquish wheels with no weights added in the rear is still too heavy IMO.
