Default grinding axle housings

I have seen some people that look
like they have ground or rounded off there berg axles at the tranny housing...I can see how this can help but how do you know howuch to grind off, what is he tickness of the housing wall?

The axle housing ia alot thicker than it needs to be. I just ground off enough that I feel comfortable that it won't crack.

Do be careful if grinding the bottom of the diff area to get rid of the bolt and smooth it out. It can get pretty thin in that area.

It's not very thin at all. I've ground the crap out of all four of mine and they still have plenty of material.

Once you get to the area that is below what is ground on yours. Very bottom. actually could be considered flat part bottom of case. It is very thin. Are by the bolt is good.
I got a little grind happy and it is almost pushed in there. Crawler skidz take care of it though.

this is how i did mine. for the rear i also took off material from the tubes..
