Default best budget steering

ok here's my dilema. I'm trying to get my Berg up and running for the red rocks comp. I should have everything I need to switch my SWX chassis from my Axial to my Berg in a few weeks except steering.

For steering i'm planning on doing the 86jeep steering but I don't think i'll have the funds or the time to get it done before red rocks. I'm looking for advice on the least expensive steering to go with until I can afford to do it. I'll probably buy the Vanquish knuckles.

Should I just go with a stock berg steering kit or ??????

Thanks for the help

do the 86jeep set up your self? its not that hard if u have a dremel to cut the servo mount and some sort of grinder... that plus the hardwear to set up the steering. all together maybe a 20 dollar job

86 JEEP DESIGNs is the way to go. His stage one kit works great or you can always go with the Stage two with the servo behind the axle kit both work great!

I did the 86jeep steering setup myself. Actually did two of them and it was about a 3-4 hour job a piece. Hardest part in my opinion was getting the gear mesh set but its not too bad if you enlarge the holes a little.

thanks for the advice, i know the 86jeep is the preferred way. My other choice is the rcinnovation ota. I'm gonna talk some local moa drivers this weekend that are offering help and make a choice. I'm not confident enough to grind up my new axles so if I can find some local help then I might go that way. If not then rcinnovations is my choice.

The rc innovations steering has a little bit to much flex and the supplied servo mount really hangs our there...I ran it for a while, but re did the servo mount...Don't get me wrong..its just with my Futaba servo I can see the tie rod flex so I am going with a 86jeep...servo bta set up.

Save your pennies and mail your axle to 86Jeep and have the original designer do it himself. It doesn't get any better than that option.

Keep that stuff to PMs please.

The RCInnovations kit is a good option that you can bolt on quickly. It does have a little flex, but nothing horrible. It gets the tie rod WAAAY out of the way, and now that Rene is having his parts machined, they are a lot cleaner and more precise too.

The only real negative to the kit is that the ends of the tie rod will rub your tire sidewalls on the inside if your wheel offset is somewhat narrow.

(Vanquish DH wheel offsets don't rub)
(Wheelworks wide offsets don't rub)

If you space the drag link to run parallel with the tie rod the flex you guys are seeing will be greatly reduced.
