Default Harvo's (Special Ops Side Project) formerly Rockshow

For last season, I had really good results with my XR-10. Both with the stock chassis and then the Rockshow, it performed predictably and was very stable.

During the off season, since I had the spare axles, I decided to build a berg comp rig again. I got a Rockshow SS from Mike, some CCD axletubes from Clover Customs, and scraped up all the spare stuff I could find laying around for the rebuild.
When I was done, the truck worked great. That got me wondering how it would do with some updated and new parts.

I won dual BRXL's at Nat's so I pulled the cases and heat sinks and used them. Great ESCs!

VP 8* Knucles and hubs and some Big Ron's below the knuckle weights

The washer is my hi-tech way of spacing the wheels

Some Brood 40T Motors

I had the motor guard which is thick and indestructable.

I finally got the feel for the Pro-Line Big Bore shocks
Mini-T short Orange springs with no preload (front)
Mini-T Green springs with the adjuster at full preload (rear)

The one area that this truck still needs improvent in is the servo.

I Love how quiet the berg runs and after a few weeks of goofing around with it, I was feeling more comfortable with it than the XR. After a flip of a coin it got the nod for the ETRC Season Opener... My first ETRC win in 3 years of competing with them.

It really does handle exactly like the XR Rockshow. There are a couple of things the XR does better, but the biggest advantage I see in the berg is that it has more forward weight bias and less total weight than my XR. That allows it to pull breakovers much better.

Anyway... more random pics and I'll update this thread as the truck changes. Just felt like the Berg board has been pretty quiet lately

Looks really good, I'm just starting my first berg build using the rockshow chassis. I've got a little while before mine is even a roller.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Now the number one "pain in the butt" issue with the Berg axles has come back up ... where do you get your wheel nuts and what kind do you use that wont back off ?

All the ones I have tried last about 3 wheel changes and then the nylon is gone.

I have 300's and RC Axlemasters axles and VP wheels, so they can't be flanged nuts.

Suggestions?? Thanks!

I saw someone use some Traxxas flanged nuts...they just had to grind down the OD size a little. They're nylon and serrated

Here they are

Looks good Harvo! I like your threads. I will be following...

Yep, I used the Traxxas nuts. Never had one back off yet. I drilled out my SLW hubs for them to work though, left the O.D.

Edit,..

I really like your motor skids... you may see some just like them in my build thread. LOL

Hello Harvo !

Nice build, it's always refreshing to see a nice rig come to life and that thread needed it... All for the XR !!!! when you know some bergs can really shine...
I love the stance and the light green of yours. Your electronics give me the will to go with BRXL, just one with a punk dig...
In my country, parts are difficult to have and I wish I could also go with clover axles but I'll keep my axles stock for the moment. I may try Erik's delrin tubes later if my building skills get better.
Now we need some action vids !!!!

Have fun dude !

I have been using these with blue locktite with no problem....
they fit the SLW's fine, but you will need a thin wall nut driver ..

You can get a bag of 100 flanged 5mm nuts from mcmaster for about $5. I just threw them in my nut driver and took down the od a tad on a belt sander using the nut driver as a guide

The Proline shocks are a little bit of a hassle because they work bst with the shock body at the top. That makes it tough to find a way to mount the cap to the chassis without binding. I had a decent set up, but I didn't like how far out I had to space the shocks and they stilll occasionally bound.

If you get the axial balls from the XR10 kit that have the large flange on one side, they work perfectly. The large flange ensures the shock won't slide over te screw, and there is enough space on each side of the ball to give plenty of bind free movement. I added an o-ring to keep everything from moving too freely, and stood them off with a Jeepin Doug's standoff.

Now there is 100% bind free travel all the way through the shock cycle

Another truck on these shocks is to cut off the loop end of the cap and tap it for a three mill hole much like we were doing with the losi comp shocks. I did that with mine and it allowed me to flip the shocks.
