Default CCD Tube Problem (Ideas Please)

I love my CCD tubes, with the VP 8* knuckles and c-hubs. Like a knucklehead, when I got them I wanted to try more caster. Instead of drilling the C-Hub, I drilled into the tube.

Unfortunately the holes I drilled and tapped were too close to the originals and now they have grown together Even more unfortunate, is that to get the chubs on I had to clearance the dia. of the tubes and went a little too far on one side. So it wiggles.

My screws that hold the C's will not tighten up very well... one of them at all. One was so bad the scew would just slide out... so I had to go bigger. That is what I want to avoid on the rest it I can.

I would like to hear some suggestions on ways to fix this. I would just start over if Brian was still making them, but I don't think he is.

Thanks!!

Try J-B Weld on the hole & retap it. After that J-B Weld the carrier to the tube.
J-B Weld will release with a bit of heat if you need to take the carrier off.

I've repaired 2-stroke case with the stuff when the crank would lose the LWR rod bearing & crack the cases.

Yes, fill, let dry, drill, retap!

Also used this stuff to change the shape of intake ports & repair some cracks in water jackets. It's good as long as it's not used in a stress area, like side to side force's.

If ya know a good tig welder, they should be able to fill the hole without a problem and possibly add some material to the dia. Of the tube end. Then you'll have a clean slate.

Yeah both of those are good options...welding it is the better option but obviously more pricey and possibly more difficult to get taken care of. Bryan is still making tubes...just not doing the steering mods anymore.

That's what I did with the one hole, but the head is so dang big it limits my steering. And I haven't found a 4mm with a tiny head yet.

Can u just pick where u want them and move 90* from the holes now and start fresh with new tapped holes in tube and Cs. And for the wobble wrap some very thin metal around and slide over it.

Cant you just use 4mm set screws? Then theres no head to worry about.

I have never had any problems w set screws on my dlux tubes.

On my super the forces were too strong to hold in the delrin so I started having the same problem. If you can, try to drill and tap the top and bottom of the chub and then 4mm set screws on he front and back. I actually went this route on my 2.2 for more security also

Worst case, I could try and tig them up for you.

Edit:
You could even tig the chub directly on if you're desperate

Hey Harvo I know it's too late, but next time (if there is one) strip the anodizing off of the Hubs instead of sanding the tube. That's on an assumption that you bought colored ones.

Can you not just drill a new set of holes at 90 deg through the hub and tube...

If the tubes had sufficient thickness I'd get all over-complicated...cut off the end, spread and tap the hole, make a new axle end (flush one end, threaded other), screw together, TIG the junction, grind, polish, proceed.
