| Coming SOON! 1 Piece Rear Delrin Tubes...
This is something I have been wanting to do for a while, and now have a donor rig to use as my test dummy..... I whipped out a proto this evening to see how it will work out. It uses a snap ring to keep the bearing in. Outter diameter is meant to utilize D_Lux lower link mounts. Much lighter than stock! Sorry for the crappy finish, this one was a real quick proto.... Pm me for more info. I will be working out the machining kinks, and then announce a price/date.... |

Good idea! I brainstormed for quite some time on bearing retention methods and I am making the same thing for the axles I'm building. Still waiting for the groove cutter to be made but mine will be 7075.

Do you have pictures of the tubes with shafts installed? I'm wondering how these work since the hex pin and hex typically rest very close to the bearing. It seems like the hex would get into the "flange" on the end of the tube.

I dont, but I can get some soon. With a wraith axle test fitted, and a honcho style short hex, it fits perfect!

| Re: Coming SOON! 1 Piece Rear Delrin Tubes... If I'm not mistaken, those use a "lockout" to support and retain the bearing. The main factor that makes this design superior to the "lockout" style is that the tube supports the bearing without a joint that is typically 2 screws supporting the bearing, axle and entire rear of the car. I'm actually suprized an idea as simple as this hasn't caught on yet. I predict that this style of berg tube will be more common than the lockout style before too long. It's too simple, strong and light. |

| Re: Coming SOON! 1 Piece Rear Delrin Tubes... What he said below. The ones I am working on do not require a lock out to keep the bearing from coming out. Instead, a snap ring. Not that something this minimal is really "Needed" but just another option. I like minimal and simple on my MOA rig. So if I had a berg still, I would like these on it. But I might be building a berg to test on anyhow, since I am coming out with some budget XR/berg hybrid stuff Quote:

So I am going to make a couple sets as a "test" run, and if they turn out, I will sell them at a slight discount for people that want to test em out. So feel free to PM me. jcboof is in line already.... I can maybe do 3 sets???

Intrested! Those look way sweet! Will they work with the dlux rear axle shafts?

| Re: Coming SOON! 1 Piece Rear Delrin Tubes... 2 screw holding my cap on my CKRC tubes is safer than 1 snap ring in a groove.

I'd definitely like to try these tubes out once I get some experience with a berg, looks like an innovati e option.

X2! The snap ring design really doesn't scare me at all, as long as the groove does in fact stay nice and square. If the groove gets worn a bit and gets v-shaped, it might be a problem. But honestly, how much side to side load gets put on our axles??

Do you really need a bearing in there? I'm running full delrin rear tubes without bearings. For one complete season, and so far no slop has been produced. Without a bearing, it would be easier for sure. |

| Re: Coming SOON! 1 Piece Rear Delrin Tubes... So what supports the axle shaft? The shafts just spins directly in the delrin tube? What keeps the axle shaft from falli g out of the tube?

Again, I maintain going against the groove at all times Just the fact that you're comparing something I would make against a CKRC product is offensive in itself. I tested a tube with a lip that was machined too thin by putting a shaft in it, with the snap ring in. I then held the tube, and beat the inner shaft on my bench. The lip was WAY too thin.... It was a blem. But I figured I would see how much force it would take to break it. I was able to beat on it pretty hard before it broke. WAY more than you would ever get from a crawler. So with the thicker lip, I am sure you wont have issues. I am confident that the snap ring will work fine. And just as klabeaume says, you'll have just as likely of a chance that the e-clip will fail on the axle shaft itself, as the snap ring failing. Quote:
I know you dont need one on a tube that has the bearing hole drilled, and you slide a lockout over that tube.... But then you need a bearing at the very end, behind the Hex. Not running a bearing is a horrible idea. You would wear out the delrin. I cant see you being able to do that, and not having a lose shaft. Then how would you keep the shaft from sliding out? I dont think they will honestly. I believe his shafts use a 12mm OD bearing. If I can make a set to 14mm OD, and have Erik make some 14mm mounts, then I will DEFINITELY be making larger ones to use the bigger 12mm OD bearing. That is a way easier bearing to get for the 6mm shafts anyway. But it will really depend. I have talked to Erik about either making some with a larger hole, or selling me a batch with a smaller hole so I can mill em out to fit. Time will tell. The 13mm tubes MIGHT work.... I thought about making a set and drilling the hole for a 12mm bearing, but .5mm wall is a bit scary

These are very cool. I really like the idea. I am struggling was struggling with the the idea of servicability by ditching the lockouts but then it occured to me that you can probably service a lot by removing the snap ring. Cool stuff.
