Default Diffs locked or not locked?

Thinking of building a FoFF rig, but I am wondering if the diffs should be locked or not. What is recommended? I will be using AX10 diffs.

IMO it depends if there is any crawling sections or if your willing to sacrifice some handling for more traction.

im going to try an open front diff in my Wraith when it comes to see if it is worth the trade off, becasue for a scale/trial/or rock rig you need them locked!

but for fourmula off road racing it may not be a bad idea.

Locked is the only way to go.

Since sand is very loose, if a tire loses traction, the other wheel will become stationary and the wheel that lost traction will just spin. You need to lock your axles in order to put any power down.

It's not like FOFF has tight hairpin turns or chicanes to deal with.

I'm going to lock the rear in my Slash 4x4, but leaving the front open for now. We'll see how it handles in the sand like that, and then I can still run it around bashing as well without tearing apart the diffs.

I just ordered spools for my Slash4x4 just to see how it feels. Honestly, the geared diff is great, stable and steers awesome. I just want to try it and see if there's any benefits.
With a solid axle FoFF I would run spooled front and rear. They do tend to push a little but very predictable and controllable.

That's why I am only going to try it in the rear. Figure I'd have some pretty good steering keeping it open in the front. Maybe thicken it up a bit up front, we'll see once I tear it apart.

My E Revo is locked front and rear, but I unlocked the center so that seems to make it drive much easier. If its all locked.... its a hand full!!

Once I get my diff gears, it'll be front locked and rear open, I'm hoping for a dig effect for on power/hill bombing action!
