| best power plant for foff (noob)
hey guys! im new to this whole foff thing. saw a few pics online and i got hooked. now im bulletproofing my axial ax10 and and am building a foff wreckluse. my question is whats the best power plant? i like the tekin fxr pro but maybe brushless is the way to go. whats your opinion? i know BL motors are pretty much sealed so that might make it a little tougher under hard conditions (sand and loose dirt) any other tips and tricks would me appreciated as well. thanks guys will be posting pics as i build many more upgrades to come. http://www.flickr.com/photos/3382791...in/photostream http://www.flickr.com/photos/3382791...n/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/3382791...n/photostream/ |

i was thinking that. i have the 1/18 micro pro on my rc18t2. they have explosive power but they dont like to be driven slow. idk if the mmp is any better cuz i havent used one. kinda want an esc i can crawl with if i wanted to. so i guess im looking for something that can get me good wheel speed but can be responsive with a lower throttle imput. ( if that makes sense)

Mmp is great also but you'll clog the fan up with a lot of sand and its not waterproof. I have one and love it for hallin a$$. Last edited by muddinscx; 09-23-2011 at 12:24 PM. | |

... The only thing is that brushed motors aren't sealed. They are waterproof but don't like grit and sand that much. You could try the vxl-3s combo. The esc seem to fry early but traxxas has the best warranty. Its a $35 charge for a new one if your case looks like crap. If the case looks perfect I've heard a lot of the time they wave the fee so you get a new esc free. They can run brushed, bl and bl sensored. It doesn't have a drag brake or instant reverse but you can atleast run 3s lipo.

I'd stick with brushless for FOFF purposes, more efficient, more reliable and enclosed. Brushed is better for crawling. Traxxas 3S VXL w/ a 3800 is great. CC Sidewinder w/ a CC 1406 4600kv would scream. Personally I'd go 1 cell MMP ( no fan ) and a 1415 4 pole with a BEC.

thanks for all the help guys. vxl 3's are cool but aren't programmable so no hill break if i wanted it. i do all my own water proofing on all my esc's so that's not really an issue. thinking of going towards a BL system. now to pick one. i'll look into the holmes. not to familiar with those. might also look more into the mmp |

| I swaped out my vxl for this combo, w/all high speed gears... it's insane. I should have video up Sunday night after our scale comp. I haven't had the space to fully open it up, I've only run it in the driveway... I can't wait to see what it can do. |

If I got thE brxl ( looks like that's the path I'm going to take) what's a good motor for it? I was just looking at the holmes puller motors. Those look insane.

I'm running a 4 pole 4200 with a mmp on 3s...all purchased from Holmes. Based on what these rigs are meant for...loads of power with insane wheelspeed, this is a perfect combo. The guys who got to play with mine at nats can attest I'd be worried that you're gonna be lacking the rpm necessary to sling the dirt and get your paddles to move you along. The fact that BL motors are sealed is also great for the terrain we run on and the stuff we sling everywhere. |

why would you need a brake on a hill climber? ..its full throttle to the top! |

br-xl got here and i hooked it up to a hpi 15t from my mini trophy truck. Running 4cell lipo. Very impressed. Even with a cheap motor it works well. Today i got an 18t orion motor at the hobby store that had a price tag of 80 bucks. I talked them down to 40 so thought i would give her a try. i can always put it on the tc5. |
