Default First FOFF build

Hey I decided to build a FOFF thinking it would be fun to play with when I go to the dunes.

Having never done this I wanted to get some opinions on what I've done so far.

Basically I have stretched the wheel base...using traxxas revo pushrods in the front, and some 3links I had laying around. There's a MMP with a castle 5700kv BL. With regular tires I had decent wheel speed. I haven't taken it to the sand to try it out yet though. It's currently geared 23/87. I think I may need to use a smaller spur/larger pinion. I plan on running 2S.

I have aluminum knucles and c hubs on the way, and have all metal gears for the tranny.

The Hitec 645 is only for testing. I will probably throw a hitec 7955 on here.

Thoughts?

It looks like a fine start... I think you'll want to looking into either Traxxas Maxx shaft's or MIP drive shafts.
And when you swap out your spur/pinion, go with 32 pitch.

Yea, I'm running the MIPs on my scale one. Planning on getting a set after I grenade these! Are the upgrade diff gears from Axial going to be the best affordable gearset?

I think they are the only choice... go with the Over Drive gear set. That'll get you a little more speed.

What is the pinion and spur you have in there now?
Good start.

Looks really good so far. If your looking for serious wheel speed, time to change up the spur and pinion gears. Also you should get 32 pitch if you are going to spend time in the sand. The smaller gears won't like the sand.
I would also look to direct the pinion angle towards the transmission more also.

Other things that are needed after carnage Hardened gears in the trans and differentials. Of course some MIP shafts to take the punishment all Foff's deserve.

If you haven't (or aren't) going to mirror the trans I'd buy the optional gear covers that come with the dingo kit to keep the sand out of the gears (you could still flip the transmision..just not mirror it). This is just a guess though, I've never played in the sand so not sure if it's a problem or not..

Axial Transmission Spur Gear Cover

(I have dingo kit so I'm not sure what the motor plate in the honcho looks like but I'd think it'd just bolt up)

I have the same setup now and it gets the motor really HOT. I am in the process
of going with the 32 pitch gears. I hope this will fix the over heating problem and help with the torque i need.

I vote for going with tmax shafts. Inexpensive, lightweight, and have been holding up great so far. You will need a an 80 tooth spur for clearance (which will give you more speed anyway) or go with the 32 pitch gears
