Default Overkill or not?

Hi,
Im at the start of my own foff at the moment. I have a question about the engine/speed part. What i mostly read is that i'm gonna need a shitload of power on the wheels. So this is what i want to use so far:

2 axles from a AX10
Gearbox from AX10
spur on 66 or 80, not sure yet. pinion on a 18 or 25.
Mamba max esc with a 5700kv motor on it with a 3s lipo.

Will this be overkill or not even near it?

spur and pinion will effect the outcome a lot, but i dont wanna burn the esc in any case.
Also my wheelbase will be around 50cm (19,7inch) long. wich means a very long driveshaft

That esc and motor might run ok, the gearing is the key to how hot it runs. just try it and see how it goes.

Whi do you want such a long wheelbase? 13 to 15 inches is normally used.

Indeed, but thats for a normal foff. I'm building a car based on a mudracer from the eighties. So its going to be for sprint mainly. Ill see how it goes later on as a foff..
i also have a bushless 8,5T motor and esc, but will try that if the Mamba isnt good enough.

I run an old CC CM36 5700 on 2s with 32 pitch 20/50 and I really like it.
I used to run it with a smaller pinion on 3s but it got really hot. The temps aren't so bad anymore.

The speed is great and it has enough torque to be fun in the sand but really not alot of low end control.

i like the bigger lower kv motors with lots of low end. im also find theyre pretty managable at low speeds.

im running the turnigy 2100kv 1/8 scale size motor and it is a rock crawler on 2 cell lipos and flat get up and scoots on 6 cell. thats with 14/56 32p gearing. this combo on 4 cell even has enough to spin paddles and move on the sand pretty good.

im going to test a 20/56 gear combo today for speed and tourge heat im wanting to drive my 4 cell lipos in the sand. if it gets hot il drop to a 17.

i also have a cm36 4600 kv on 3 cell it flat out scoots and has lots of power but is lurgy at slow speeds and cogs. probly go to 4.0 gearing with it since its plenty fast. i also noticed this motor is good to 4s wich should make it a screamer

I would suggest try what you already have on hand, keep an eye on the temps and also keep notes of what you changed and how it works. This way you won't try the same thing twice.
We would really like to see some pic's of what your working on.

yes, i think i will do the testing, and get notes of it.. it needs to be very fast and powerful on short straights in mud. Maybe the temp wont be a problem if its just a short burst of power...

and surely i will place some pictures when i start. Just waiting on the parts to come with the postman

this will be the start to build from.

Is that a custom chassis? I fancy building some kind of sand rail/dragster once i have my new Foffer built.

this is the inspiration.

The car im building will be based on my own designed chassis. The main shape is from
those offroad dragsters.
Im not sure anyone build such a car before. hopefully it will rock!

With a chassis that long I wouldn't be able to resist 2 trans/motor setups.

Yeah i would definitely have to do it. Another reason to do it is because of the crazy long driveshafts.

I'm sure even the MIP summit male bone won't be long enough. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Oke, i ordered 2 new drive shafts. Both are 173mm if im not mistaking. One of these i will use for the short distance to the rear axle. The drive shaft in front is going to be modified tough. Think i need something as 230mm long! Has to be welded in order to be strong enough.
Another question for u gearheads. What would be the better gears (spur/pinion), 48p or 32p? And why?
Got ax10 tranny with cover on it.
