Default Malin's new Gmade R1 Rock Buggy

Well since it was my daughters 5th birthday today I got to work on her new crawler that I have been promising her for a while now.

We all know the R1 by now.....

The electronics will consist of a Tekin FX-R w/Tekin 35T, 3S LiPo, CC BEC, 2 x Hitec HS-7954SH High Voltage.
All run by her Futaba 3PK. Shocks is Losi's 4" crawler set

Some bling-bling from Junfac....

Ripper7Racing Delrin Skid, High Clearance links and battery/servo plates.

Choice of tire is the all-round favorite Rover White

Put the chassis in the "jig" to fabricate links and make adjustments:

Set at 12.5":

Shocks almost done. I'll change to Traxxas rod ends in the front as well

I actually haven't had a 4WS rig since the original Clodbuster days.
Just thought that it might be easier for her to start out using 4WS instead of a dig system.....we'll se

You're absolutely right. You only need one or the other. I ordered the Junfac parts before Lance had come out with his parts (I actually also have the Axle plate without servo mount for the rear).

The quality of the Gmade kit and option parts does look and feel like high quality parts. Exited to see how it performs and hold up.
Only thing I'm missing is hex head hardware.....other than that no complaints so far

It took me 3 years of sleeve tugging just to get my parents to buy me a hornet... If your ever looking to adopt a quite little american boy; I dont talk back, 99% potty trained , and I promise not to play with the udders around the family

Seriously though awesome to see the family involved with your hobby, always makes it that much more fun! Great looking build and pics, I love the look of the R1's

Hmmmm......I suspect your fascination with these udders might have been the reason for your folks holding out on you. On the other hand maybe giving you something else to "play with" back then might have helped
This fetish just can't be healthy

Yep the R1 is really growing on me.....can't wait to try it on the rocks to break it in (if I'm allowed that is).

Here she is with her loaner (my Honcho). As you can see she is REALLY concentrated when she is driving. She follows the car and looks at the lines before negotiating the gates. And when I tell her how good she is she just says; "That's how you do it dad"

Here she is driving the same course as my nephew (13 years old). On her first attempt she managed to get through 10 gates with only 1 reverse penalty !
It took him 5 attempts to accomplish the same

Can you tell I'm proud of her

Just got to savour the moments while she still wants to hang out with "Old" dad.

So if she wants a real crawler like dad......she gets one

Got a little bit more work done today.

Soldered the electronics and routed all the cables.
Modified the front shocks and put on Traxxas rod ends.
Put 3 mm cone washers on all fixing points for the shocks as well as on the mounting points of the upper links on the axle plates.
It is now super smmmooooth
Also made some braces from 1/4" delrin rods for the shock towers to stiffen them up.

Tekin FX-R and CC BEC ended up on the plate above and in front of the motor......

while the receiver ended up under the battery plate in the rear.

Links and mounts in the front.

Same image of the rear links.

3S battery mounted on the front axel plate.

Only thing left to do is to hook it up to the PC through the Castle Link and Tekin Hotwire for final adjustments, and paint up some panels.

So, with the portals, how is the scrub radius, and how does it effect the turning with so little weight?

The scrub radius doesn't differ that much from my Bully setup so I doubt I will notice any huge differences.
Not sure what you mean by "so little weight" though ?

It does look a bit "bulky" in her hands I admit that. But she keep telling me how strong she is and has never complained once
As soon as Futaba releases something better than my 4PK she will definitely be in for an upgrade

Thanks

I'm debating hard on what to do with the panels.

She wants them pink with Hello Kitty......I'm just not sure that I have that in me......being a guy and all

Either way I think she will be thrilled to get her very own crawler....."just like dad"
