Default 13.5 to much motor?

I picked up a G-made R1 today. I have a 13.5 motor waiting to go in something. I was looking to build the R1 as more of a rock racer. Is the 13.5 to much motor or should I stick a 17.5 in it and gear it up some?

I put it in with a 12t gear. Should see how it runs tonight

What gear did you go with?

the R1's portal gears are pretty tough ...... ive been using it and driving thru binds expecting something to break ...... i opened it up and the gears still look fine ..... im pretty sure that it can handle a 13.5T motor ...... have the shocks set up in sprung though so you have more compression play if you do plan to do some crazy jumps ....

The 13.5 is fun. But I need to turn the drag brake down in the Tekin. It does front flips if you let off the gas

I'm going to change from droop to a spung set up.

It's a nice mix of fun for crawling and a little bashing.
