Default R1 electronics and shocks

Hi all, I am getting back into scale rigs after about the last 10 years, and to that end have bought a Vaterra Ascender kit and a Gmade ARTR R1.. I'm in the process of doing a few upgrades to the R1 before installing electronics. I understand the R1 has limited space for electronic components and am reading up on it here.. This site has so much general info that it can be overwhelming and a little tough to find what you are looking for. So I thought I would ask R1 owners if they have a preferred electrics/motor combo that are small enough to fit without taking up too much precious space and work well.. It will be used for light duty crawling and general bashing, but more of an emphasis on crawling. Also wondering if anyone has any experience with the Boom racing aluminum shocks they make specifically for the R1, do they work well or otherwise?

There's not much traffic through here anymore. I built mine using just the two halves of cage and Axial bits. I made my body panels, too. But here's how I mounted mine.

Rx and ESC are held on with double sided tape. The battery is held on with a velcro strap through the panel above. I also have a strip of double sided tape to keep it from sliding side to side. I could put the Rx and ESC inside the cab if I tried harder. But it's still under construction.

I put a set of heavy HR stamped wheels in some big HPI Rock Grabbers and used a variety of Traxxas links/pushrods.

It'll nearly go 90* under its own weight. It will go 90* if you push it.

My R1 kit arrived yesterday. Haven't decided what use it will get, so will build it box stock.

For electronics, there's both a Novak 17.5 and 21.5 Ballistic with companion ESCs in the old pit box. One of those will do for now. Probably end up going 2s shorty LiPo for a motor battery. Not sure about that.

The kit will go together with R1 OEM shocks assembled in 'droop' mode.

Just went out with mine today in a new configuration.
4 wheel steer and drive. Front suspension full 5" sprung, rear is set in a drop droop RC4WD oiled shocks with soft springs.
Looks funny, but I could not get stuck today , rarely needed reverse, and ran cool all day.

HANG UP AND DRIVE !
