| R1 Rock Buggy - Gutless Forward, Fast Backward
Hi! Im new to RC Vehicles. I got this second hand. Forward it is very gutless and can barely move and has to be almost level, cant crawl over wilted plants. Backwards its like a rocket. See Video. The "Drag" setting on the ESC is correct, don't know what else to do. Thank you! https://youtu.be/byzG8yIw-eE |

I don't have the stock R1 electronics but I've messed with other RC's in the past. It almost looks like the motor is connected backwards. You should be able to unplug and trade the 2 motor connectors. Then, on your remote, reverse the polarity. There is usually a switch to make it work in reverse. I learned this the hard way when I kept doing backwards wheelies and couldn't get much speed going forward. Lots of programming here and there. Nothing. Swapped the motor wires and then flipped the switch on my remote. Done. Now I don't drive it because I started to break aluminum pieces and locally can't find Helion Rock Rider bits any more. |

| Re: R1 Rock Buggy - Gutless Forward, Fast Backward whats the gearing or pinnion size and what motor and what esc are you running that esc dosent look like its got alot of settings or adjustment you might be geared to high for the motor alot of escs only have 50% power in reverse so if you are running high gearing it will be completely gutless going backwards and be to fast going forward a smaller pinnion gear will give more torque but less speed if this is the case your gona need a differant motor or esc or just live with it as a crawler and enjoy |

I didnt build it so cant say what the ratio is, if he followed the instructions then it would be 12/40.24 according to the chart. Motor is a 35T, cant see any other details, BEC is 5v/2a |

I temp attached another identical esc and tried it out, this time I can climb things, forward is still slower then backwards but at least it does not stop when trying to go over obstacles. So whats the issue of the original one and can it be fixed without rewiring it. Thanks! |

will it eventualy reach the same speed as the test esc it will be slow and gutless with out the caps but it will eventualy get there ether way your probably still gona need to replace the esc i have some escs that have external caps that can be replaced and some are soldered right to the mother board but thats how mine act when 5he caps come loose | |

No change, been trying off and on for four months, been consistent. Is their a better recommended ESC for this unit? So its not a "Programming" issue? Last edited by NeiMac; 10-13-2019 at 10:42 AM. |

this is the esc i use i have maybe 10 of these they say 480a but there a 80 amp esc and other than not being programable there realy good for a cheap esc they do have switches for lipo or nimh and forward reverse or forward break reverse or forward break no reverse i replace all my escs with these for the last 5 years now they even take 4s with out issues the only issue i have is there not in stock anyware in the usa so i have to order from china and they take 3 weeks to get here so now i order 2.at a time http://www.ebay.com/itm/231207194074 that esc your running looks like a bad copy of the hobbywing Last edited by ferp420; 10-14-2019 at 05:56 AM. |

I bought mine locally, triple the price you posted if I recall. Aliexpress has this unit for $9 lol, banggood $15cdn (HSP HPI 320A Brushed Speed Controller ESC) For now I will switch out the ESC and then order a new one. Will get back how it turns out. Raining now. Thanks! --------------- Switched out the ESC and now it can climb up a wall and flip over lol, once the weather better will try it outside. Its got guts now Last edited by NeiMac; 10-14-2019 at 03:01 PM. |

Tested the buggy out today, it can crawl nicely now So a higher current ESC will give me more power right? https://youtu.be/zFyBSoklEPg |

A higher current ESC can only give more power if the motor can use it. Think of your motor as a water tap. Some are 1/2 inch, some 3/4 or and so on. Your ESC current limit is like the size of the pipe connected to the tap. If you had a 1 inch tap connected to 1/2 inch pipe then going to one inch pipe will allow more water to flow. If you had a 1/2 inch tap connected to 1 inch pipe then going to 2 inch pipe won't make much difference. Sent from my LG-H870DS using Tapatalk |
