Spare parts answer to the rear suspension problem?

So....

The cantilever suspension just doesn't work right. Even with 100 weight oil, and heavy springs, the rear suspension is absolutely flaccid, allowing the axle to basically flop back and forth.

So I ordered a sway bar to try that, and it got lost in the mail. So then I was going to go to the V-shape configuration that many of you are running, but I had a piece missing, and if I wanted that piece, I would have to spend $16.00 plus $9.95 shipping from Korea for that parts tree.

So I dug around in my parts, and found two matching shock plate/keys. I used a pair of 90mm shocks I had in the box with 35 weight oil, and ultra soft springs, and switched the cantilever shock spring to as soft as I had, and came up with this.







I haven't had a chance to run it except on a few rocks I have out in the yard, but from what I can tell so far, it is going to keep the ass end planted the way it should be and not just flop.

You guys that have been at this awhile, do you see any problem with this setup?

Ok...

so I got chance to run the BOM today, after doing a couple more tweaks and upgrades.

I had a set of boom racing aluminum shock towers for an SCX10. They line up perfectly as far as mounting, but they don't have the panhard mount molded in, so I had to find a solution to that. The first pic is the panhard mount for an RGT crawler, and it worked perfectly with the SCX10II panhard bar. I just searched 1/10 crawler panhard mount and found it on IMEXrc



As you can see by this pic, the SCX10 panhard bar lines up perfectly, and adds about 3/8" additional downward travel by providing better clearance on the diff.



So as to the performance, wow. The shock towers make an enormous difference. I guess they should because the stock plastic ones are about as stiff as half cooked pasta. Much more predictable, and it picked up a few degrees of steering under load.

The addition of the outboard shocks also did exactly what I had hoped. Lost no flex, but it stays so much more planted when covering a challenging obstacle.
