I would suggest you paint it in a color that you like, not what everyone else likes.

So I have came down to two options.

1. army green and do the military thing
2. silver with the underneath red like this pic but red

Pick a color that you like and try to make it unique so it isn't one of many that have been posted with that color.

In my opinion the army green is a must on these, real scruffy finish for a real tank of a car. Oh and the front window has to be a fold down type

Since CJ jeeps were also sold in civilian versions with multiple available colors I wouldn't consider it a must.
Being a commy bastards with a distaste for violence, for me army green was completely out of the question.

There are a lot more authentic color options for a Willys Jeep than Olive Drab. Check out this website for the colors offered by Willys-Overland Paint Colors from 1946-1963.

There is nothing wrong with Olive Drab. I painted mine OD because I was trying to model it after the one I learned to drive in.
