Your driver looks awfully happy for somebody that's just had his nuts attacked by a giant Dremel! Finally got my Sawback today. It's not going to be nearly as cool as what your building, but it's still going to be fun. Keep the pictures and updates coming! |

I found him on Ebay. He's just under 10 inches tall, so between Mego and G.I. Joe size.

Mego is a company that makes action figures that are about 8 inches tall, so Hunter Dan size. |

The chassis is finished and the shocks are installed with no springs. The servo is chassis mounted on the rail. I also finished the paint, metallic blue and white, and installed the plastic parts, but nothing is mounted permanently yet. I'm still not crazy about the way the driver's stubby little legs disappear into a hole in the floorboard, so I may have to get rid of the legs entirely and stuff the pants with something I can fold to look like legs, but still not interfere with the turning steering wheel. I played around with placement of some of the scale details, which I will mount permanently once the body posts are installed. The screws holding the front posts in place will be hidden with square foam blocks to imitate windshield bumpers. |

| Re: New Sawback Sports Thanks! I found everything on Ebay. After I searched 1:6 scale accessory I found a seller that had several things I liked so I could buy them all from one person. The seller was rattlesnaketoys.

I'm calling this build done. Basically, anyway. The accessories I chose to use are glued or screwed, the driver is attached to the seat, steering wheel and gear shifter, the steering wheel servo is hot-glued in place and the lights are installed. The only change that I will make now is to space the wheels out from the chassis because the tires rub the leaf springs at full lock. The recessed fuel filler is a resin mold made for a Land Rover D90 body with an aluminum nitro fuel line plug as the gas cap. The base for my antenna is one of the small, metal brackets that are supposed to attach to the chassis rails, but which seem to have no real function, lol. The driver's "legs" are sections of cloth rolled and inserted into the pants. Perfect for molding into the position I wanted and still out of way of the movement of the steering wheel. I highly recommend using white on the interior to contrast with the detail items, so they show up better. The shoes and fire extinguisher (butane lighter) are held in place with screws. To attach the hands, I heated them with a blow drier and shaped them to more of a gripping position, then wrapped metal wire from a bread tie around one of the fingers. That wire goes through holes I drilled in the steering wheel and the shifter. I also reamed out a hole in the cup holder decal for a plastic water bottle. In order to cover the screw heads that hold the downward pointing body posts in the the hood, I added plastic blocks with foam glued to the top to imitate windshield bump stops. I may try to make a short video tomorrow. Last edited by Alpha Male; 03-13-2015 at 10:42 PM. |
