Default "Moab meets the Bean" RCX 2008

Just for you Brandon and Jack.

So I am sure many of you already know that RCP Crawlers has had a rockcrawling display at the last few RCX shows here in SoCal.
http://www.rcx.com/ME2/Default.asp (be sure to wait until the pic on this page scrolls to our last years display and look just to the left of the R in RCX, I can't help but laugh everytime I see this pic, you'd think he had never seen a crawler before. )
This year we decided to to go completely off the deep end with the display and have secured a 30' by 40' "island" booth for the show.

First you start out with this what you see below. This pic is only 1/6th of the total amount of foam used in the new exhibit. That stack is 4'x4'x8'

Next, we marked out the booth floorplan in the RCP Crawlers parking lot and began setting the blocks of foam out to determine the area to be used.

Two places that I have been over the years that have totally stood out as the most unique places to crawl have been Moab Utah, and Bean Hollow state park in Nor Cal. We set out building this years display to bring the best of these locations to The Fairplex in Pomona Ca April 19th - 20th.

What is the first things that comes to mind about Moab? Lionsback and the arches right? Since Lions back is now closed to wheeling, and as far as I know the arches themselves never have been open to vehicles, we thought it would be cool to attempt recreating these, and began building framework and the basic form.

Everyone say Hi to our project manager. He goes by FLETCH on this board.

Hi FLETCH

Ask and ye shal receive...

First we started by cutting the foam into different shapes. We did this with a hot wire cutter.

The wire cutter allowed us to get am BIG portion of the structure cut without mess. More on the mess later. The first thing we needed to do was get the arch done so we could match one of our favorite sections from last years display to it.

It was about this time that we decide to move inside the shop due tho the uneven surface of the parking lot. We need to be sure that all of the sections line up correctly and the gaps are minimal on a flat surface since that is how the RCX show's floor will be. This meant doing the whole thing in sections inside the shop.

We next lined up and started to shape the Arch on the flat surface.

After a while with the wire cutter we had the arch beginning to take shape.
Ohh yeah... The bad thing is you can see BRONCOBASS just starting the mess in this pic. Kids don't try this at home. SERIOUSLY

wow this is the greatest manmade/indoor rc crawling terrain I have ever seen. I may have to go to rcx just to see this thing. What will happen to it after rcx? You better not be tossing it. If you do, I call dibs on the arch!

Saturday would be perfect! We bought grill a few weeks ago and I grabbed a propane tank from home that was only about half full.

I'll go pick up a bunch of Carne Asada for Saturday if that sounds good to everyone.

Oh man! I have been trying to get numbers and measurements from Jason on the warehouse location that RCC headquarters is in for a while now, so we could put a CrawlZone test course there.

Give him a hard time about it Bender, and maybe something like what Brian and his crew are putting together could happen in you own backyard.

Or at least we can pitch it to our rock manufacture to see what he thinks.
